This is, of course, assuming that the patented hot-side/cool-side technology had come to northern Virginia by then.

It might have been late 1984 actually. I remember the regional manager pulling a few grillers from each local store and teaching us how to make them at the Fairfax City location. It was mainly a packaging/storage demo for the managers I guess, as the sandwich assembly itself was obviously pretty easy. But it was neat to meet teens from other stores and get to sample the new product.

There has been a way of preserving trash for the kids to discover for centuries now. It used to be called a midden. Then, it became known as the landfill.

Now ... we call it Smithee's place.

The great thing about the McDLT container was that it really worked. You could take it home and the lettuce wouldn't be all wilted. You could reheat the patty without having to disassemble.

New Mexico clears way for Atari games dig

The Associated Press

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. -- New Mexico environmental regulators said Thursday that they have granted approval for three companies to dig up an Alamogordo landfill in search of a rumored cache of what some deem the worst Atari video game of all time.

New Mexico Environment Department spokesman Jim Winchester said that a waste excavation plan was approved but with some conditions attached.

The landfill was reportedly the dumping ground for "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" game cartridges in the 1980s, the Alamogordo Daily News reported (http://bit.ly/1dQeNYq ).

Fuel Entertainment, Xbox Entertainment Studios and LightBox Entertainment recently announced plans to search the landfill for the game and record the dig for a documentary to be released by Microsoft Corp. for the Xbox One console. Filmmakers have even offered fans the chance to enter a giveaway of anything that might be unearthed.

Where would Otter be without Alan Smithee? (Probably doing something useful.)

They're spending serious money to pull copies of the worst game ever made, on an obsolete format, out of a landfill.

How can you call that good news, after all the abuse people have given Alan Smithee for rescuing VHS tapes from the dumpster?

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Since this thread started, I've eliminated almost 100 DVDs, BDs, games and CDs altogether from my collection. In retrospect, I'm not going to miss anything that I parted with.

Made almost $200 in extra cash and donated some stuff for tax write offs for next year. I'm not going to look at it that I lost so much money in the process. I think my collection was extremely bloated with stuff that I just didn't need to own and was just sitting there gathering dust. It was my fault for making all those impulse purchases without really thinking. Now I can work on truly enjoying what I have and being a lot more selective on future purchases.

"best thing" and "good news" don't always equate! I just get tired of saying "this is the funniest thing I've read all day" ...

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

How old is the OP, anyway?

I currently have:
- 55 DVDs.
- 15 Blus.
- 10 CDs.
- No video games.

Back in the day, I had over 100 DVDs but lost most of it in a flood. Since then, had been more picky. And given/thrown away about 25 DVDs over last 10 years. I would like to eventually upgrade half of my DVDs to Blus and purge the rest.

Later this year, I might get a Roku or Amazon Fire box. I just watch a lot of tv and do stuff online.

I have since bought most of DJariya's collection. I am currently on the lookout for CEDs, D-VHS, E.T. for the Atari 2600 and Pogs.
