I've lived in numerous apartments in my life, and know the drill. At least you have the convenience of using the washer/dryer on the apartment premises, and don't have to go to a stand-alone laundromat. As was said, this doesn't take much time (people typically wash/dry clothes once a week).

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Today was my 'day off' (I have some work to do this evening). I cleaned the kitchen and did dishes (no dishwasher), folded and put away laundry from last night (I even had to use a common laundry room!), cleaned and vacuumed the living room, cleaned the bathroom, emptied and washed the cat boxes, and still had time to read 100 pages and took a nap.

#MAAGA (Make Alan's Apartment Great Again - it can be done!)

Sounds like about an hour of work. Maybe 90 minutes, tops*. It's amazing how much you can get clean in that little amount of time.

*exluding the cat shit. No cats here so I have no idea how long that takes.

I think a lot of us thought that's what he needed, but it seems like it's a little simpler than that. Figuring out how to do laundry while holding down a job is just a basic adult life skill. The only thing required is to occasionally make the decision to do the necessary thing rather than your favorite thing. I'd rather play video games that wash dishes, or vacuum, or mop, but I would also rather play video games in a clean, orderly house, so I balance it.

For reference...
If you do it every day? about 2 minutes. Maybe a bit longer on days where you need to top it up or refresh everything.
If you leave it for 2 weeks and it's just riddled with poop treasures and pee-baseballs... no more than 30 minutes to dump it all out, clean the box, and dump new litter in.

It's quite litterally (ha!) a task that is not time-consuming at all.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Yeah, emptying the cat litter is a quick and easy task, especially with the flushable corn litter. The only problem I have with cats is when they puke somewhere (which they can't help), or get an attitude and pee in front of the box.

Hoarders should not have pets.

Those comments about hoarders having pets reminded me of this this video, which I posted in the random video thread some time ago:

Unrelated question, do you post on the NYT comments section under Alan Smithee?

I remember watching an episode of Hoarders where a coupleís house was so cluttered, their cat died behind a bookshelf and there was so much stuff to move that they just left it there. When the cleanout finally occurred with help of organizers and a Phsycologist, they found the cat skeleton behind the bookshelf. Both of the couple admitted to smelling it, but they didnít do anything about it. Just a horrible way to go for the animal. Thatís animal neglect.

My cats are family, I would never do anything like that. My place would probably be a lot worse if they werenít there.

Yes, I use this name elsewhere although in some places itís already been taken, donít remember if Iíve ever commented on New York Times.

Aren't you so glad everyone is so normal here and can give you sound advice?

Come to think of it, I bet half the people on this forum are hoarders.

I don't know about anyone else here, but since I'm a loser of the first order, I'm probably the last person who should be giving other people advice.

I tried to watch this for the narration, but can't get over the condition of the apartment. For the love of God, stop buying junk and start cleaning.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

So youíre subscribing to my videos just to see how messy my place is? I agree it does look pretty bad there, going to work
on it Sunday. The player is already going back because it doesnít work, despite the seller saying it worked ďgreat!Ē Was watching the listing for a few weeks, he had it at one price and raised it the same day, then gradually lowered it til I bit. Had to have a good PAL laserdisc player but he packed it so minimally it was probably damaged in shipping. He was probably pissed that he didnít get his original price so didnít bother to pack it well, but now heís gonna get negative feedback unless he makes up for it somehow.

Good thing is that I get a lot of cleaning done when Iím pissed off.

It's like watching a car race to see a crash.
Actually, the thing I don't get is spending over $300 for even more clutter when you don't have room for it. Do you ever worry about your parents cutting you off?

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

There was a place on my equipment shelf I was going to put it if it worked. I use that space on the floor for testing and fixing stuff, though the two VHD players there need to be put away. I still donít spend beyond my means- though funny enough I just had a dream that I had to move back in with my parents and had all my A/V stuff set up in their living room, which meant no porn.

You'd think at the very least, he'd clean off all the clutter piled on the table in front of the TV screen. I can't believe he gives audio/video reviews in that setup .

I saw an empty root beer can just laying on the floor... I wonder what the roach situation is like there.

The roaches live next door in the empty Coke 12 pack.

I only noticed the cat because my eyes were drawn to the soiled pack of blank discs on the floor.
