Alan, what about your new (1964) tv? What’s the story with that? That seems like an exciting project, but are you prioritizing playing around with that over cleaning?

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

It's not a TV, it's just a test pattern generator used by TV repairmen of that era. I've been advised not to plug it in until I get a variac, which will let me gradually introduce power back into the unit. Capacitors and tubes are known to react badly to being turned back on suddenly after being unused for decades. Won't have the money for that til I get back to work (little to no danger of those becoming unavailable.)

I have the Brazil Criterion DVD but will take and watch anything I don't have. Speaking of which, I might FINALLY make some real progress in the clean-up this week but we'll see. Still don't have a job as I had hoped but getting help in that area.
I'll set the Odyssey and any other unsold DVDs aside until I'm done unpacking. I'll send you a PM then to see if you still want it.
What about movie posters (one sheets)? any interest in those? I have some from the "Tomorrow Never Dies" time frame (when my friends worked at movie theaters) that I dont want anymore.

Alan begins clearing a spot on the floor for his new arrivals...just kidding. They'll end up on the spilled bag of VHS tapes.

Took this today at a Goodwill. Still more organized than Alan's place.

You need to make comments like this to keep your sanity in this thread, don't you?

Looks like their "Outlet" store, where everything is thrown in bins and boxes and you have to just sort through everything to find the good stuff.

I don't have much use for movie posters at least right now, as there's no place to put them up. I have a few from my theater days- in my parents' garage I have an unopened cardboard standee for the first Power Rangers movie that I should see about selling.

Your logic is unsound. You don't have adequate places for any of the stuff in your apartment.

Initially I posted a sarcastic comment and then I deleted it. Alan has a real problem and we're not going to shame him into changing.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Oh come on, I could've taken it.

FINALLY going back to work in the next week or so, just a temporary 3-month position but better than nothing.

And thanks for the stuff Dave! Just wondering if I might've dropped one of the Blu-Rays on the way to the car, or if you decided to keep it? I don't remember what it was exactly except that it had an Ultraviolet sticker on the front, I would've let you redeem the code for that if you wanted. The Odyssey does have an AC adaptor, I'll try to get it hooked up and maybe do a YouTube video of it if it's interesting. Definitely a museum-quality piece!

So you're starting work next week and you won't be able to clean because of work? Have you started cleaning up yet?

Sadly, this reminds me of someone I knew about 20 years ago who called himself "Big Jim". He was morbidly obese, but he told me that he wasn't going to attempt to lose weight until civilians could go to space (assuming that weight would be a factor). The ultimate goal always requires something really unlikely to happen or is in some way incredibly far off.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Well, my last job was pretty exhausting so all I wanted to do when home was watch movies or listen to music. I'm probably setting myself up for a big fail saying this, but being out of work for so long I'm eager to get back, and think that with more structured time I'll be more up for getting work done around here at least on the weekends. Could be another famous last words, but we'll see.

Been wanting to upload more stuff to YouTube as well, but am out of hard disk space on the computer right now- I have a bunch of stuff I need to burn to disc so I can delete them and free up that space.

The job will be fairly close to Half Price Books, so once I get the rest of the duplicate laserdiscs sorted out I can bring them by there also. (Found I now have a total of THREE copies of "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead"!)

Fascinating that your hoarding problem extends from the physical into to the digital realm.
