What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

First off, the Vegas board is pretty much dead and Otterville is always good for travel advice.

I used to go all the time as a kid, and have been there a few times during the last ten years. My last trip was in 2009, so I'm wondering if any of our Vegas natives have any recommendations for a trip in May, in regards to that time of year as well new or interesting. I was leaning towards Red Rock Canyon (not new, but I haven't been) and the Mob Museum for starters.

I'd hit the Beatles show if it's still running.

If you went in 2009, there isn't much new. A bunch of new development downtown. The Cosmo and Aria have opened since you've last been there. Outside of that, pretty much the same old Vegas.

Re: What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

I'm going to Honeymoon in Vegas this September. So far all we got lined up is a P&T show (we get to sit in their person booth where the VIPs & friends get to sit). I think we are going to spend a few nights at the Rio, but might move down closer to the strip so we are more within walking distance to things.

Anything good for first-time visits? I'm not too big on large crowds, mostly interested in smaller good places to eat and neat things to do. More like where locals would take friends from out of town, not where books all say to go. Like I'm much more impressed with a good food truck rather then where the latest celebrity chef put up a restaurant.

Mid-Strip has undergone some major changes, too. Bill's was gutted, and then there's Linq, with the observation wheel and the redesign of Imperial Palace.

Bill's isn't open, so it doesn't matter. The Linq isn't open either, is it?

Re: What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

I was there last month. Nobody was winning on the slots, the tables were basically empty (no matter which casino you went). The buffets (Rio Carnaval, Bellagio, Planet Hollywood Spice Market) have gone downhill. Panhandlers everywhere. The highlight was going to Gold & Silver Pawn.

I actually came out $5 ahead and felt lucky.

Re: What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

I stayed at The Cosmopolition last October for my honeymoon.
The Wicked Spoon buffet was great. Very Large choice of food. Great dessert selection. Evening buffet was $45.
We went to the Mob Museum. It was pretty cool but there is alot to take in very informative. Before that we went to the Neon Museum. They are trying to keep the old neon signage from the strip for the future. It's very cool. We went in daytime but the evenings are supposed to be better as they light them up. Cameras are allowed.

Zumanity is good if you are into that kind of thing. Tony & Tina's Wedding is a fun/interactive dinner wedding.

Re: What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

For shows: As all have said Penn&Teller, as well as O and Love.

I always go for a lunch at Mesa near the sports book at Caesars.
As well as Carnegie deli at the Mirage.

Todd English for one late Breakfast next to Aria was pretty good.

I think Stage Deli is gone now.

My hotel I go to now is the Mandarin Oriental.

I love this place. Drugstore right at street side for any quick pickups and a very short taxi line which is great on a Sunday checkout.

Just walk in and hop the elevator. You do not have to deal with a mile long walk to get like many of the others.

Also the view from the bar in the lobby is pretty nice to.

Not sure anyone can answer since what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Re: What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

not to hijack a thread but wife and I have been contemplating a trip out there (were in NC). Asides from airfare/hotels, what is a good $$ amount to have for say a 4 day trip?

I know there's lots of variations etc, but say if you wanted to just check a few things out and maybe some poker?

Re: What are some new Must See/Do things in Vegas?

Are you paying cash for everything? For a 4 day trip with your wife, I'd say probably around $1000. You aren't going to buy in to any poker table for less than $100. Do that a few times, paying for cabs and food, that should be enough.
