Remember the gal that sued McDonald's over the hot coffee? She did deserve the money!
Saw this on reddit. Very interesting, especially the following things...

Seems like we have gone back and forth about why this is or is not an example of people suing for nothing and getting a big pay day. Looks like this was quite legit, eh?

As we learned from the Kennedy assassination thread, facts have nothing to do with the truth.

She still had some culpability. It's not like McDonalds reached into the car and poured lava-hot coffee on her lap.

She's a little old lady. I'm glad she won.
But holy shit those are some serious burns!
What the fuck did McDonald's put in that cup...lava?

There have been a several, and I mean a lot, of articles and documentaries written about just that. I've even seen picture of her burned crotch. It's bad. I'm on a retainer with my psychiatrist.

I still have very little pity for her. Coffee is supposed to be hot. She put the cup between her legs. The argument that she wouldn't have gotten as burned doesn't fly with me. She was a dumbass.

There is a difference between "my this is a little hot" to "holy shit the flesh is falling off my leg", isn't there?

She's 67 and looks like she's 67 with some plastic surgery.

She did some work at Harvard and I think is retired now.

the coffee was served at 190 degrees F, hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns
Would you happily say "well honey, you had the coffee in your lap so deal with the consequences of 3rd degree burns".

Actually that video made me feel she was even more culpable for the accident because I didn't know she was pulling the lid off when she spilled the coffee. I thought the lid had not been properly secured by McD's and that's why it spilled.

This is a fault of McDonald's. What if she had not put it in her lap but DRANK that hot lava ? She could have suffered more damage than what she got on her legs. McDonald's is lucky she didnt drink it first.
Would it still be her dumbass fault for drinking the coffee ?

Yes, coffee is hot. But this coffee was way above what it should have been.

No no accountability on McDonald's part for serving boiling coffee ?
