gazelle.com ...anyone trade-in their cell phone?

Just wondering if this site is legit. I have a flawless iPhone 4s and they quoted me $175 to trade-in. I want the 5s on Friday and this would almost offset if i were to get a small gb model.

Anyone do this? Is it legit? Do you get what they quote? how quick do they pay you?

thanks.

dude...shhhh!!!

actually, after the iOS 7.0 download it still wasn't fixed, but that is the only thing. i've had it in this titanium Vapor Pro case by Element and never dropped it once. this thing is a sleek beast.

"good" condition is still $165 so will probably go with that option to avoid any discernable flaws...

I sold them a blackberry storm before. It was easy. I don't remember how I got my money but I'm sure it is all on their site. They mail you a box and prepaid label to send it to them.

I'm locked in at $230 until October 15 for my 32GB iPhone 4S. Haven't decided if I want a 5S, a Galaxy S4, or to just keep this thing longer.

My contract is up so this is not a 100% pointless exercise in blatant consumerism for me. Only 95% :)

Lock in your quote, they'll send you a box or shipping label, mail it in, they check it over and make sure everything works, you receive paypal

can't they hold it in Paypal (as if it were there) or something? and then release the funds when they get the phone...

I understand your concerns. I started off with a couple games to see if it was legit. Ended up selling around 50 games to them in a 3 month span. Never had a problem. (Their values plummeted then it was time to peddle my games elsewhere:))

Probably depends on who your carrier is and when you asked for the quote. Things continue to depreciate over time.

Gazelle has been around for a while and is pretty widely recognized buyback site. You should also check out Apple's recycle program and Amazon's trade-in to see if they give you more.

I believe they send you the box and packaging. You send JUST the phone, no cables or boxes, they add money to your Paypal account after the phone's been checked out. They email you every step of the way, when they receive it, when they checked it, when they issued payment.

thanks! i'm just wondering if it will depreciate even more when the 5s is released tomorrow. think i should sell it back now in order to get $175 price...

Shouldn't this be moved to the "Store Forum"?

and they sell amazon gift cards, so you could turn around and essentially turn this into amazon credit.

Just lock in the price now. I don't think that the price would increase, even if it did, you could always get a new quote

thanks to all for suggestions and help!

i actually cancelled my gazelle offer and am going with Verizon themselves. $210 on a Verizon gc which can be used to buy my 5s. not too shabby...

Amazon is a gift card too, I think.

From what I understand, gazelle just cleans them up and sells them on eBay. If you really wanted the most cash, eBay is the way to go. Personally, I didn't want the hassle.

Re: gazelle.com ...anyone trade-in their cell phone?

Never used. But they're legit.

I was in the used cell phone business for a few years. Terrible. Just terrible. Lots of scammers do cell phones. Most cell phone also wear down over time and don't work very well (like computers). And the clientele is very stupid. Would not recommend it to anyone.

i know about eBay, i've had great success selling a phone (Droid) before, but with Verizon gc it curtails cost of new phone or bill if i do get through and can actually get a 5s...

Obviously selling yourself would net the most but also puts you at higher risk for fraud and idiot buyers.

You could just throw it on craigslist for $350 or so and see if anyone bites, they'll lowball you down, but you might get $250 or so pretty easily

I didn't want the hassle of someone complaining about a tiny scratch or something.

Target also buys back cellphones if you're getting a new phone. I bought a new Galaxy S4 last week for $149, they gave me a $50 Target gift card plus paid me $50 for my old Galaxy S2.

Re: gazelle.com ...anyone trade-in their cell phone?

could some please tell me:

1) what do these companies, like Verizon do with the phones that they can offer their consumer $210 for an outdated model (in this case the 4s)?

thanks.

Troy Stiffler 09-20-13 05:31 PM

Re: gazelle.com ...anyone trade-in their cell phone?

They don't make money on the used phone. It's a gimmick. They get to extend your contract and lock you in for another year or two. Most people are paying over $100/mo for their phones and data now.

I worked with a local Nextel store before. They just got to keep the trade ins. There's a lot of traders out there who handle used phones.

A dealer/branch will get around $200-$400 commission.

I don't know if carriers handle it differently, but I would think most end up getting resold (probably outside of the U.S>).

Verizon is offering $200 for a 4S trade-in on a 5S. Best Buy will trade-in phones as well.

Sell it on eBay for $500. Some idiot would buy it. You could get a 5S for free. Do the same thing in 6 months when your iPhone becomes obsolete and a new one replaces it.

Re: gazelle.com ...anyone trade-in their cell phone?

It's legit. I had an Iphone 4 that went through the washing machine and was completely dead. They offered 50 dollars for a non-working phone and sent me a prepaid box. The good thing is that they send you emails telling you when they receive the phone and another email when everything is approved.
