Some mistakes that are so common that they are probably just regarded as "informal speech" rather than mistakes:

Using "where" in cases calling for "that" or "in which", as in "I read where some people never get a computer", or "I"ve heard about a situation where a man had fifty children".

Using "like" for "as" or "such as". Just about universal now and shows up in most print media (and probably some major public addresses such as inaugural speeches). Probably was a lost cause ever since the "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should" ad campaign.

This one bugs me because it is so common. Always hearing "I could care less" when they mean "I could not care less"

As someone who majored in English and has worked in proofreading/editing, this one bugs me too, though it's so common that most people don't even know it's incorrect. The few times I've pointed out that a person is a "who" rather than a "that" I've received mostly blank stares.

Combining "gigantic" and "enormous" into a new word, although I guess it still means roughly the same thing as the original two words.

Yup. If one more person tells me they "eat healthy" I will puncture my eardrums with sharp pencils.

Some of my peeves are in my sig. There are more, including many mentioned here, but I'm too lazy to edit.

One I could add from reading a lot of independently authored books recently is that
past does not = passed!!! I never would have dreamed that so many people could have such problems with these seemingly simple words. So, that's another one for your sig drmoze for the Not the same category: passed/past.

Double negatives such as "Ain't nobody got time for that!"

I heard a radio spot for a local discount warehouse place today. The manager says, during the spot, "There isn't nobody that can beat our prices."

So, what that manager meant is "There are somebody's that can beat out prices!" (and, yes, I know this is not good either, just trying to play around; what he truly meant is "There are some (maybe several) places which can beat our prices".

People who say "you've got another thing coming" instead of the correct "you've got another think coming."

That was an interesting bit of origin for a phrase that I had always used incorrectly! I'd never even heard the correct usage before (that I recall, anyway). It almost sounds like something Popeye would say.

Re: What are the grammar mistakes that bug you the most?

dropping the "-ly" from the adverb. For example, "No one would take him serious."
dropping the "to be" (e.g. "needs fixed" )
using the word "busted" instead of "broken" (technically not a grammatical error)

"No one takes me serious when I say the busted window needs fixed."

The -ly thing drives me nuts! I hear and see it so often in ads that I'm beginning to think no one here even knows it's incorrect.

Or is it meant to mean: "I could care less...but I won't."

What's wrong with eat healthy ? That's how it's said.
