WTF!

We're talking pet peeves here - if it doesn't bother you, great! But it bothers the fuck out of me! And 9/10 the people not moving just seem like assholes anyways, assholes that live in a bubble, not giving a shit about anyone around them. I try my damnedest to not inconvenience anyone around me, ever. So when I'm being inconvenienced due to someones carelessness and/or obliviousness, I lose my shit. It all comes down to lack of decorum and consideration.

I have yet to run into that one, I'm sure they hate it to.

If my window broke I would just go inside, kind of awkward way to use the drive through. What I dislike about the drive through is people that are alone ordering a hundred things that takes twenty minutes. I get it if you are one person with kids etc inside, having to take them all in would just be a pain when you just want to grab food and go.

Drivers who are lost or looking for an address, and drive down the street way below the speed limit, holding up everyone behind them. There is an intersection I go through on my way home. It seems like a couple of times a week I'm stuck behind someone who suddenly sees they're coming up to the intersection and don't know if they should turn left, go straight or turn right, so they crawl toward the light which turns red and I get stuck waiting an extra cycle at the light because of them.

Now that one happens, I understand why they are doing that however when it is REALLY hot out each light cycle is more time to cook. -_-

I never really thought about it too much as I almost never use an escalator, think once in the last decade, however once something like this is brought up I will likely look out for it as I try to avoid doing anything annoying as much as I can. I am really aware of things and rather not inconvenience people either.

Since I rarely use them I mostly thought of escalators as something most people just stand on and wait, never really saw people walk up them in person, likely because I am hardly around them. It may be rare, it is possible a person here or there that is standing very still on them is because they things are far too high and moving is not an option.

People can walk up escalators in airports and business settings, but when I'm on leisure time, like, at the mall, I'm standing.

Leisure time? At a mall? See, I can't stand places like that, so if I'm at the mall, it means I'm running an errand and need to get the fuck out of there as fast as I can, so outta' my way!

I have two small kids. To them escalators are still one of the great joys of life not to be rushed.

People treating the escalators like a ride is annoying, but it's not nearly as bad as treating the people movers at airports like a ride. And then the people just stand there looking around, like they're expecting to see exhibits or a circus act. Is it really that much of a hassle to walk? Christ, you don't have to walk fast; just fuckin' move a little. You'll still get to where you're going faster and it will still take less effort than full-blown walking. It's even worse in Vegas, where a lot of the casinos have people movers as the primary entrance methods. The people who would rather exercise a little more and actually walk in end up having to navigate a maze, assuming they can even find it.

Don't know why you people are getting so mad at people who stand still on escalators. You're SUPPOSED to stand on escalators. They for moving you up so that you don't have to walk up stairs yourself. This is especially good for whom it's really difficult to walk up stairs.

Escalators: If you're standing, stick to the left. If you're walking, stick to the right. WORLD PEACE!

Except for folks like myself who would assume the left side is the passing lane.

I always thought that and any time I see anything involving them I never see people move on them.

re: The One and Only Air Compressor Thread (was "Pet Peeves?")

Talking about walking on escalators - here in THIS PART of Japan it's rather understood that standers stick to the left side and walkers go to the right. Out west though, it's reversed and one has to remember that when traveling.

It's okay on an escalator if somebody on the right is not walking to say "excuse me" - that will generally either get them moving or else make it apparent to them that they should be in the other "lane". The biggest problem is that most Japanese people have no balls to say "excuse me" to those people not walking. It generally has to be the foreigner who says "excuse me".

On a side note - one of my pet peeves here is the lack of manners of school girls on the trains. They are often SO VERY LOUD - like they want everybody on the train to know what they're talking about. Sometimes, if they happen to be right beside me I will make the comment "urusai" (you're too noisy) and they will quiet down - the funny thing is that I will then actually be verbally thanked by those standing nearby!!! They will not tell the school girls that they're noisy, but if somebody else will do it then they very much appreciate it.

This is a country where on most trains 30% of the people are sleeping, 20% of the people are reading and 50% of the people are doing something on their cell phones - e-mail, games or etc. Then, sometimes there will be those 3 - 5 school girls showing off how loudly they can talk!

While good in theory, I do think I've ever seen an escalator wide enough to allow people to effectively pass others. Every escalator I've ever been on is just narrow enough that if I tried to pass someone who's standing I would be the one that looked like the pushy asshole bombarding my way through.

Now the people movers at the airport is another thing. I think it's an unwritten rule that you stand to the right and pass on the left.

Maybe in Colorado escalators are narrow, but most big city escalators are plenty wide enough for people to easily pass, even when they are carrying shopping bags or etc.

re: The One and Only Air Compressor Thread (was "Pet Peeves?")

I was in a hurry to get to an appointment the other day but had just enough time to go through the drive-through to grab a quick sandwich. As I'm slowly driving towards the entrance this lady in this car dives in front of me so she can be first. No big deal. I left a little early just in case there were some delays. Then she starts to order... and continues to order.. and then orders more.. and then suddenly without any warning she continued to order. WTF. So now I decide to back out and just go inside and when I do she's still ordering. I can see her order on the screen inside and her order was already at $80. Seriously? If you're going to do a huge order like that.. go inside. She was still ordering when I left.

I suppose it could be Colorado-centric, as I can't remember the last time I was on an escalator in another state, but I don't think so. While there's room to get past people, it's not a whole lot of room. Personally, even if I was wanting to get somewhere, I would just deal with the extra 20 seconds it takes to stand behind someone to the top. Escalators typically go a max of two floors, and I'm rarely in a big enough hurry that an extra 20-40 seconds is going to make a difference.

I've seen that happen on more than one occasion. People usually think of an excuse for them, where it's if they got that much food then it's more convenient for them to get it in the drive-thru so they don't have to carry it out by themselves.

To me its just complete ignorance. I try to not be in a rush when I'm out driving but people that feel the need to race you to be first in line at any burger place are ridiculous.

Litterbugs also piss me off! And, there is an abundance of them here in Japan. Even on the mountain trails they do not hesitate to toss their empty plastic drink bottles. People have this stereotypical image of the Japanese as a "clean" people who with their animistic upbringing would never do anything to "dirty" anything in nature. HA! Throw that stereotypical image out the window please. The cities, streets and neighborhoods are just as littered as the worst city anywhere in the world. And, when people are eating their lunches on the mountains and the wind picks up and blows their litter around - would they run to retrieve it? No way! Let it blow - who cares, many of them would have tossed it off the side of the mountain anyway! It sickens me.

Unwashed dishes just sitting in the sink

Not putting dried dishes and silverware away

People who forget to flush or make sure all their shit was all flushed (whether it takes 2-3 more flushes)

People who piss 6-8 inches away from the urinal creating a urine fountain. Why??? I've seen multiple people do it at work. Fucking nasty

And pertaining to the Internet.

People who bump threads that are months/years old and quote someone and respond to them like it's an active conversation. I don't see any point to that.
