Simply divide your age now by 2 and tell us what you were doing then

37 now
So at 18 1/2 I was almost done with high school

Just like Beavis and Butthead,I was sitting on the couch watching tv and doing mostly the same today. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

Interesting question. After some heavy duty math calculations, I was in college & working part-time. Now I'm twice as old and work twice as much.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

I was 19 for most of 1994. I was in my second year of college and still hated it. Working 25 hours a week at UPS and getting my prog rock band off the ground. Hair was finally decently long for the first time after graduating private HS in 1992 where it had to be short. Life seemed pretty decent but was still living with my parents which screwed with my dating life a little.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

41 now, so at 20 1/2 I was in my sophomore year of college.

Let's see... my then GF was cheating on me with her ex-BF. When her ex started coming down with some generally vague symptoms of...something, she accused me of giving both her and him some STD.

Happy days!

15, so either in drivers ed, playing videogames or jerking off.

Possibly all 3 at the same time.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

I was 17 and between my Junior and Senior year of HS. I think that might have been the best summer of my life. Had a part time job, had a car, had a bunch of good friends.

Now I've got a full time job, a better car, and am mostly still friends with the same guys. But I barely see them because I've got a wife and two kids. What a difference half a lifetime makes.

I was 19 and was about 6 months into serving as a missionary in Philadelphia on a two-year mission for my church.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

I would have been 17 and just finished up high school (I didn't take any spares and took these weird OAC classes that counted double so I had enough credits to GTFO). This was a period of mostly having fun, working in this shitty donut hut, hanging out with friends, getting high, cruising around... The only downsaide was that I had this weird religious paranoia going on at the time. I was obsessed with the book of Revelation and was convinced the world was going to end soon. I remember one night getting out of my friend's car and having a panic attack because the moon was red (which it sometimes gets because of the crap in the atmosphere) but I thought was a sign that this was the moment of the end

26, the year would be 1987. That was a good summer. I was living in Philadelphia and had a cool research job in a neuroscience lab at PENN. Fun times, hanging out with friends, going to see a lots of bands, dated some great women that summer

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

I was 13 1/2. Just finished the worst 3 years of my life at a private middle school, and fearing high school for all the myths that were around at that time (a lot of that had to do with the fresh memory of Columbine). Obviously, it was overthought, and high school was still the best 4 years of my life. Wish I could go back to my senior year, sometimes.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

23 years ago I was 23, still part-time at my current job, and going to school sporadically for God knows what. I was bouncing from nurse to nurse on the dating front, and my main hobby was comics. My wife was in middle school and my daughter wasn't even a thought.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

Closing in on 19.5, which would put me in my sophomore year of college, commuting 70 miles round trip daily in a Buick that was ill-equipped to handle such distances. Fortunately, gas was at or under a buck a gallon then. I was making slightly above minimum wage at a grocery store that had the good sense to staff the registers with cute teenage females, but they unfortunately had more interest in seeing Legends of the Fall than Pulp Fiction or The Professional.

Re: what were you doing half a lifetime ago?

I was 29, still in the 11th SF (A) Reserve and married for 5 years with a 1 year old daughter. I had an 850 Norton Commando that I rode to work rain or shine. We lived in a tiny apartment, I worked nights and my wife worked days. I looked like a KZ inmate from no sleep between working, the baby and the army reserve.

Good times.
