Re: Moore,OK (same place that got hit in 1999) hit by tornado

Growing up as a kid you always heard the stories of tornadoes doing this or that and one that was always told was that it could take a toothpick and put it through a brick wall ... this is close enough

Man it's all over the dial now, every news station doing nothing but this massive storm around OKC. They are ass deep in it out there as of now.

It's expected to hit Moore again, amongst other places that are being hit right now, and will likely be hit during the evening. Relief workers that were in Moore have been/are fleeing the city to get out of the path.

I-40 is shut down, 18 wheelers are on their sides, cars being blown off, etc, all over the area on the roads and freeways. There has been at least one fatality from cars being hit so far. Whole freeways are clogged with traffic, and officials are telling people to abandon their cars and seek shelter now out on the roads and freeways.

Wild stuff... I hope people fare well out there.

The metro area has got 3" of water in an hour. We have flash floods all over the place and lots of wind damage. I guess the drought we have suffered the past 2-3 years is officially over.

That's a 500-600 mile long train of thunderstorms. Just about every inch I-44.

It was not meant to be flippant. I was just saying they have already had their share of destruction and grief and it's sad and unfair it is to get hit again so quickly. I am very sorry to hear about your sister.

If anyone else thought I was making light of the situation, I apologize. I meant it to mean "no more tornados." Any other meaning never occurred to me.

I hope Michael Moore directs a movie about Moore, OK and casts Roger Moore to narrate.

I'd like the name of the film to be 'Pour More Poor Moore' and the theme song should be by 'Andrea True Connection'.....yep, that one.

But seriously, it's quite sad.

So it looks like these famous storm chasers are dead. Nice work guys. However stupid, at least they died doing something they loved.

Re: Moore,OK (same place that got hit in 1999) hit by tornado

Yeah it was not stupid, Tim always chased for science and his studies helped scientists understand more about tornadoes and help save lives. I know a lot of storm chasers are out there just to get the good shot and make money on selling video and pictures, but Tim was not one of these people.

The tornado that they were chasing was moving East when it suddenly took a turn North, the way I hear it they were stuck in traffic on I-40; this was the same storm that took out the Weather Channel's tornado hunt truck.

While I do not personally know any of the deceased I have bumped into them on several occasions while I was storm chasing on the Great Plains and they were always respectful and great to be with and they were clearly one of the best in their field.

RIP Tim, Paul and Carl.

Re: Moore,OK (same place that got hit in 1999) hit by tornado

That's sad to hear. I used to watch Storm Chasers, and thought they would be a good group to chase with. They were the ones that would drop the probes along the road, hoping the storms would pass over them, correct? I think they also had an RC airplane they used. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the Storm Chasers show was still being produced, and they had a camera crew with them as well! I'm guessing that is not footage we would see. I think this helps hit home how dangerous this hobby/job actually is, since most of the time, it seems like they get away with it.

Just a matter of time before those storm chasers use drones.

Did they say how many cars were damged last Friday?

Tim taped everything they did, however none of the cameras were found in his truck, they sent out a request for people to look for the cameras and hand it in to local law enforcement. There is footage of this somewhere.

Re: Moore,OK (same place that got hit in 1999) hit by tornado

GARLAND CO., Ark. (KARK) — A five-year-old boy who survived the tornado that demolished most of Moore, Okla., was killed by a dog while staying with family friends.

It happened at a home in Garland County, Ark. The boy had been staying with friends of the family, along with his two-year-old sister, while his parents tried to rebuild their home that was destroyed in the Moore tornado. The boy was reportedly attacked by a bull mastiff that weighed between 150 and 170 pounds.

“The child was putting on some shoes and was crying and upset,” Garland County Deputy Scott Hinojosa told KARK TV in Little Rock. “The dog possibly took that as being aggressive and at that time the child was attacked.” He was taken to a hospital, but did not survive.

"Teacher Suzanne Haley used her body to protect a class of first-graders at Briarwood Elem."

She survived, but this pic isn't for the squeamish:

I think I saw that lady on CNN. She kept the leg as a souvenir.
