Something I've Noticed About TV Commercials....

The last few years, I've noticed something strange about tv and tv commercials. I can't remember the last time I saw a commercial for toys. The closest thing I've seen are late night ads for those slippers with the eyes that open and close when you step. Maybe a stray ad for those idotic Bratz or Monster High dolls. But that's it. I know they don't have GI JOE anymore, but you still don't see any commercials for similar toys. No ads for action figures, playsets, or board games....all of which still exist in stores, by the way.

You think it has to do with those worthless losers that took away the right to advertise to kids ? Or the people that made the cereal companies put giant "Now with whole wheat !" stickers on the boxes ?

Do you watch children's programming? If not, why would you see toy commercials on other shows?

Maybe you just stopped watching shows that advertise to kids?

No. I still watch Spongebob and various other shows on Nickelodeon. Even during those, the ads you see the most are targeted towards the adults that are watching with the kids. Tax preparation, old people scooters, reverse mortgages, and healthy oat cereal. You may see commercials for fashionable, trendy tween clothes, but that's about it. I can't remember what the last toy commercial I saw was even for.

Saturday morning children's shows don't have toy commercials any more? If what you're watching is during the day, I imagine the commercials are catering to the out of work, retired old people as opposed to children.

I see kids toys during Cartoon Network shows all the time. And GI Joe toys are still being made.

The shows themselves have really become the commercials.

Ya know, ever since I got a job I no longer see those "Trucker school" commercials. Why is that? Trucking companies must not exist anymore.

Yeah, there are plenty of toy commercials. OP is just watching the wrong programs at the wrong times.

My kids watch Nickelodeon and/or the Hub pretty much all day long. I can tell you that there are plenty of toy commericals, because every time one of them comes on, I get inundated with "Daddy, I want that!"

That they're loud, obnoxious, insult your intelligence, and waste your time? You do say, couldn't be?

What's a commercial? Isn't this why we have DVRs and streaming services?

Re: Something I've Noticed About TV Commercials....

Here are 4 things I have noticed about commercials

#1 Apparently every person who is home during a weekday when Maury is on has either been injured in an auto accident and needs a lawyer or they just haven't found the right career only a technical school can provide

#2 If you are at home on a Friday watching a network tv show you are cat lady since the half dozen times I have watched Shark Tank live have been the only times I have seen frequent catfood commercials.

#3 People who are awake at 4 am are a demographic who hurt their ears using Q-Tips

#4 If you eve get stuck at home on a Saturday afternoon and are flipping channels you have scientific proof some people still buy cd's since Time Life is selling the greatest hits of the 60,70s and 80s for many musical genres all at one low low price that is much cheaper then if you tried to buy all those songs sperately.

Like what ? I can't recall any commercials other than, like I said, for those Bratz or Monster High dolls. See a lot of those. Don't really see any action figure commercials or board games for kids. At least I've never noticed them. I watch Nick all the time. The Hub, too (especially the reruns of Batman, Batman The Animated Series, Superman the animated series, and Facts Of Life.) I couldn't tell you the last toy commercial I've seen.

I watch "Pokemon" every Saturday and it's filled with toy commercials. The one I recall from yesterday was the Barbie Mermaid doll. There was something for boys, too, but I can't recall what the hell it was.

The biggest thing I've noticed about commercials in general is that many have become either immature or disgusting. Companies are recognizing that the only way to reach desensitized people is to demean or insult them.

Other than a few online ads created exclusively for geek points (ie - I shipped my pants), I haven't seen too many of these ads (superbowl one time ads aside). A majority of tv ads are still just as dull and benign as they were decades ago.

Skittles and Carls Jr are two companies that come to mind immediately when i think of grotesque or insulting ads. Skittles ads are fucking bizarre.

Regarding toy commercials. I see them all the time. However one trend that has emerged lately is that several kids channels show no product ads or very few. Nick Jr., Sprite, Disney Junior.
