My new kitty!

As I spoke about in this thread, I had to put my beloved cat Zuzu down last week due to kidney failure.

We hadn't planned on getting a new cat right away, but we missed having a second cat around, so we decided to adopt.

I found a kitten online through a privately run foster program, which requires a home visit. The nazi that came actually rejected us because one of the upstairs window screens is slightly bent and doesn't fit perfectly into the window, despite my assurances that we don't open that window more than an inch or two for just that reason. I've come to find out that they reject about half of their applicants because they're fanatics.

So I went to the city-run shelter today and found a little fellow in need of a home. If he gets neutered tomorrow I can pick him up in the evening, otherwise it will be Friday. We're pretty happy, and at the very least my wife will shut up about it.

His name is Mozart and he's about 6 months old.

Re: My new kitty!

Congratulations! I know that your recently deceased cat meant very much to you, but there's no time like the present to give a homeless cat a new home.

(I've also had some negative experiences with some cat rescue groups like you did. I think that the people that are fostering the cats don't want to admit how close they've become to the cats that they're fostering so they come up with some of the lamest excuses as to why they can't let you adopt their cats. No "outsider" seems to be good enough to adopt their cats except other members of the fostering group.)

Re: My new kitty!

Thanks, everyone. The vet had a full schedule, so Mozart probably won't have his nuts cut until Friday and we'll pick him up Saturday morning. We've got everything ready for him.

Re: My new kitty!

You should get it a snuggie. They had pet snuggies at the 5 and below the other day. I think the cat one came with band-aids and gauze.

Re: My new kitty!

Well, we brought him home. He immediately ran behind the bar unit and has been there for about 6 hours. I guess he's scared.

Maybe. Or maybe he's an alcoholic.

Cute KittyCatschoen..congrats...

We had a very similar experience with "humane" groups. Not only were they rude and unreasonable, they allowed these two college girls who live in a one room apartment to adopt two right then an there. This was the first time they were in there and we were right next to them the entire time. They even ask them why we couldn't adopt.

No worries though, our local animal shelter had plenty of lovely pets and we somehow found a beautiful little dog who now runs our lives.

I still don't know the humane society's motivation for discriminating against willing adults.

He just got his nutsack ripped off. Hell yes he's scared.

Let him come to you. He will be fine. Cats hate change, they are the ultimate creature of habit.
