Re: Do you like/not like your job?

There are things about my job I dislike, but in general I like it a lot. Plus, the commute is fantastic and the benefits are pretty good.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

Yesterday was my five-year service anniversary with my job.

Things I like:

Variety of tasks--not the same thing all the time. I do scanning of text documents, photographs, transparencies, and slides; document conversion from PDF to DOC or XLS files; translation using various software programs; transcription; and some editing and revision of documents.

The pay is good. The benefits are excellent.

I work with a terrific group of people who really work well together and have a lot of fun.

The company I work for is globally active and makes an impact I feel is a positive one.

Things I don't like:

The commute. 23 miles each way, and no really direct way to get here from my home. I'm basically commuting from the city to the suburbs. Blech.

Having to be in the closet at work. It's a conservative company and besides, as I said above, my group works well together and I wouldn't jeopardize that. But it's a pain sometimes trying to remember what I can and can't talk about.

Uneven workflow. This is a problem on any job but especially for this one, where I have to find a way to bill every minute. Sometimes it's like feast or famine.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

I've always enjoyed it after accidentally falling into it 15 years ago. It's Japanese owned so the culture is different. The benefits are very good to make up for the pay being lower than the field.

It's been extra stressful though the past few years because they've been closing other branches and giving us the work, but only giving us one or two extra people to do the work of the 3-5 that were laid off. The only upside is that it's job security that our office keeps getting the extra stuff.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

Meh.

I don't think my job can be beat in some aspect. I work from the office 2x a week for 5 hours. The rest of the time I work from home. Nobody really looking over my shoulder unless I'm not getting my stuff done.

The pay sucks, since we've been frozen for 7 years (gov't job). Plus, there are really stupid people that I work with, but that's likely everywhere.

Nope, company sucks. Managers only take care of their own kind and everyone is riding it out until the place goes belly up

Not. It's a good company with great benefits, but I don't get paid enough to deal with these idiots on the daily. I need something more satisfying on a personal level, which is why I'm finishing up my BA so that can hopefully happen in the next couple years.

Hate it, but it's health insurance & a lousy paycheck until something better comes along.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

I love my job. I'm very reserved and don't like being around people much, and I'm a stocktaker so I have very little interaction with anyone. I also love organizing/counting and all that kind of stuff so being able to count cans of soup for a few hours is like heaven for me. I'm on minimum wage, but it's pretty decent here in Australia (about $20/hour). Only thing I dislike is that it's casual so sometimes I go a week or two without working and I'd prefer to work regularly.

There are a lot more good days than bad days. It's an easy commute. Pay could be higher (state job) but the health benefits and vacation/sick time are great. The downside is dealing with four different directors who aren't on the same page even though their offices are 20 feet apart.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

Left a job I hated a couple months ago. While I didn't mind my co-workers and the actual day to day work, the pay wasn't what I am worth and the expectations were outrageous. The messages that we'd get from management were so mixed and backwards and then they'd wonder why we weren't more on board. Looking back, away from the situation, it's almost humorous.

I worked a little bit in another job as casual and while there were parts I did like, it wasn't for me.

I will be starting my new job in a couple weeks, which I'm really looking forward to. Way better pay, a new team and work more suited to my skills. I'll let you know in a couple months whether I like it or not.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

Really like my job. Pay is good, really great benefit package (Education grants, 27 days of PTO, Awesome Health, dental and vision, Commute Pass). Work in a good team, There is room to grow and advance.

Things I don't like: Work load is increasing, but capacity on the team level is not. Commute sucks (a hour each way)

Great job, great pay, awesome benefits for me and my wife, travel all over the world, work from home 100% of the time, work is tough and challenging. Took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get here but it's now worth it.

Get to direct professionals as they have sex. Have a fluffer on payroll, but she strictly fluffs. My chef cooks, and my assistant assists. Life is good.

Wow andy we should meet up some time. We're in the same line of work. I'm the boom guy in most of the porn shot these days. Like my job, short hours, hot girls.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

Just over 90 days in. So I am still liking my job. After 7 years at the last place, it feels good to be making more money, and actually being respected and valued.

I will try to update in 5 years to see if I still feel this way.

I've been working for a small company for 1 1/2 years and I like it very much. The job is not physically demanding, and there is hardly any stress or pressure involved.

Yeah, I don't understand why everyone isn't working in porn. I have seen your work (not that I was focussing on you or anything, but when you went "boom" I just had to look). Keep up the good work!

I think working for a company for 7 years is like 30 years compared to several decades ago. I rarely have friends or even coworkers that have stayed on a job for 5+ years. Not sure if it's the attitude of the current workforce or the employers. I'm thinking it's both.

I'll chime in again in this thread.

I watched just under 6 hours of Breaking Bad while at work today. I really like my job.

Re: Do you like/not like your job?

Very happy with my work (7 yrs last month), I would like a bit more office space but things have gotten better since we switched desks around. The company runs pretty lean compared to others (including pay) but steady and dependable makes up for that.

I still get excited thinking about the next day/week's work. I incorporate a lot of movie homages into it.... for example, the Indiana Jones blu-ray release could not have been timed any better....the week after it came out I had a lava area to work on - hello Temple of Doom! I used a similar lighting setup, and added a few in-jokes for good measure.

So yeah, still dig it.... though I'd love a programmers salary...

In the same situation now. Hours suck, low pay, boss is a real pain in the ass. I probably won't see a full day off between now and Christmas.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.
