Interesting. Kind of a "Network"/ Budd Dwyer type scenario.

I was reading the book "The Nashville Chronicles: Making of Robert Altman's Masterpiece". This suicide is mentioned in a chapter that alludes to how crazy things were that summer... Watergate, Martin Luther King's mothers assasination, and this on air suicide.

I wonder if the only copies of the tape were destroyed. It's remarkable that it's never been leaked after all this time. Anyway a pretty compelling story for those with a nose for investigative journalism..

1974: Not current events.

Your sarcasm is pretty dated though.

No. I'm actually revisting this. I knew about this years ago. Some otters may not be familiar with the story. Just thought this could lead to an interesting discussion for those so inclined. Evidently you know all the details so your input will no longer be needed.

According to this link, the tape was released to her family. I doubt it's going anywhere from there.

Exactly 1 year earlier

July 15, 1973 - "Ray Davies, announces retirement from Kinks then attempts suicide"

Coincidence? I think not!

Assuming the wiki info is correct - talk about a woman who equated a life worth living by having a man.

Chubbuck shrugged it off and said on-camera, "In keeping with Channel 40's policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts, and in living color, you are going to see another first—attempted suicide." She drew the revolver and shot herself behind her right ear.

Re: In 1974 a female news anchor committed suicide during newscast

From the wiki:

"She lamented to co-workers her 30th birthday was approaching and she was still a virgin who had never been on more than two dates with a man."

So does this prove that the 3rd date is the sex date, or that she would have had more dates if she had put out?

Yeah I foolishly posted it in this thread and it got yanked. Rightfully so.

Anyway as DVD Polizei stated it's on YouTube, the whole thing and it's pretty damn shocking in the way it unfolds. Make sure you watch the extended version for the full impact.

Anyone in LA remember the guy who blocked one of the freeways with his car and an "HMO's Kill" sign then tried to blow himself up in the car? And when that didn't work, he took out a shotgun and blew his head off on live TV. Every channel covered it and there were plenty of angles.

Yup; I remember coming home from school and watching this on MSNBC; dude killed his dog in the car which was fucking weak. If I remember correctly, he had AIDS and was pissed about his HMO refusing medical services.

I was being sarcastic, but it didn't register. Of course every morbid fucker has seen the Dwyer tape. The Chubbuck episode would be interesting to see.

Here's a short but fairly informative doc about her. She can briefly be seen interviewing guests for her show at 3:10.
