Penn was tweeting about this yesterday repeatedly, that's how I saw it.

Hilarious.

It was already messed up anyway, and getting worse. He did it free of charge. This is going to generate a lot more traffic than if it had been professionally restored. Sounds like a win all around.

What gets me is that this is more than a few dabs. She spent some time on this, surely somebody noticed?

She says that she had permission and of course the priest knew that she was doing it.

Well, at least her version stands the litmus test of no matter where I stand in the room, it's looking at me. The original doesn't pass this test.

Y'know... I was just thinking. There's a sort of gray area on these things. Like the difference between "archaeology" and "grave robbing". It depends on intent, doesn't it?

So, where in the gray area between "restoration" and "vandalism" does this fall?

In the "hilarious" section of the gray area.

Seinfeld. George started working for a guy (Mr. Krueger) and was originally in the picture which had an embarrassing story behind it so he had somebody try to remove him from the picture only the person removed the boss instead. So he tells the guy to put him back in and that picture is the result.

She needs to suffer for her art. I hope they give her life in prison.

And release autographed prints of her work. She should do an entire series of famous paintings that she "touches up."
