So Apparently Amazon Threw The Ban Hammer At Me

I login to my email to see this:

Hello,

A careful review of your account indicates that you've requested refunds on a majority of your orders for a variety of reasons.

In the normal course of business, we expect there may be occasional problems. However, the rate at which such problems have occurred on your account is extraordinary, and it cannot continue. Effective immediately, your Amazon.com account is closed, and you will no longer be able to shop in our store.

If you’re a Kindle customer, you'll still be able to purchase Kindle content and access the “Manage Your Kindle” services for your account using below link.

www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle

All other accounts related to yours have also been closed. If you were to open a new account, it would also be closed. We will not accept the return of any additional orders placed under a new account, and we won't issue further refunds for those orders. We appreciate your cooperation.

Going forward, any questions must be directed to [email protected]. Please do not contact Amazon's Customer Service department, as they will no longer be able to assist you.

Best regards,

Account Specialist.
Amazon.com

----------------------------------

Apparently my "extraordinary" amount of returns (read: maybe half a dozen in some 5 years with the account) was the culprit.

Now this makes me mad for a few reasons. One, I had $200 in Amazon credit that wasn't used. Two, I have about 300 songs I purchased over the years and now I can't even look at my Cloud Player.

Anyone have this happen to them? This just pisses me off.

I've returned more than 6 things in 5 years.... that doesn't seem very excessive to me at all. I would still call the CSR and plead your case, pointing out your returns have always been justified and really only once a year.

Are you sure this is real, and not someone just fucking with you?

Searching for [email protected] on Google brings up a fair amount of related results.

Good luck!

Yes, it's real. I tried to log in and it gives me a bad password error. So I changed it, and I got the same thing.

I contacted customer service and three different reps all said the same thing:

It appears your account and order are on hold pending further research. This could be due to incorrect or incomplete billing information, or we may just need further authorization for an order. You may have already received an e-mail about this.

Word for word.

They kept saying a CIS rep (what the cuss is CIS, some criminal investigation team for Amazon?) would get back to me.

Further research online indicates this is a common email, even for people that hardly have any returns.

I have heard about Amazon killing accounts with very little provocation.

Some stories I've read make it seem like they will randomly close an account for one or two returns. I remember reading about a foreign customer whose account closed for one returned order (a box of books that was damaged in transit). They've also killed accounts for people who return high ticket merchandise, like a $1,000+ camera.

If you don't mind giving some details... what kind of items did you return? Why did you return them? What percentage of your recent orders have you returned?

I get a little paranoid about Amazon because I frequently receive items that have been poorly packaged and damaged in transit (banged up books and DVD/blu-ray sets, mostly; the occasional Amazon Marketplace purchase where the seller sent me the wrong thing or a bootleg) and exchange them.

Re: So Apparently Amazon Threw The Ban Hammer At Me

I had my seller account closed down because i was nice enough to say in my listings that the DVD cover was different than what Amazon had up. DVD companies (Like Paramount) change covers although it is the same exact DVD inside and I just wanted the customer to be aware.

I had 100% feedback over 3 years.

From what I hear, there is almost nothing you can do when they shut your account down as they usually won't listen or reconsider their action...it is absolutely BS.

How much stuff have you bought at Amazon in relationship to what you have returned? Fun fact about Amazon bans: anyone at the same address as you is now banned too.

You say you've returned half a dozen items. How many items did you buy? Six?

Re: So Apparently Amazon Threw The Ban Hammer At Me

what gets me is how someone is using a system that amazon promotes, the ability to return items, and he is banned...if he was going into Walmart and trying to return too many items, eventually Wal-Mart would refuse the return, not ban him from the store. That would be the proper way for amazon to handle this, not just ban him but refuse any further returns, and if he then decided to take his business some place else, he could.

I'm sure we aren't getting the whole story, foxdvd.

By the way, why are you surprised? Look at car insurance. File two claims and see what happens to your policy regardless of how long you've been a "customer."

Wow, I've gotten nothing but excellent service from amazon. That would piss me off. I really miss amazon prime in Hawaii too, I would probably pay double the normal rate if I could get 2 day shipping here.

Were you wearing a shirt or barefoot while placing your order? Because I've seen signs.

That's funny. I'll be sure to tell it to the next child I rescue.

You seem a bit angry. I was simply making a comment based on my experience that many "unexplained" suicides are related to molestation. Child molesters are only reported in the news if they are either high profile or arrested. If the suicide takes place before the arrest only immediate family and friends know, the public almost never, it's simply not reported. The suicide rate among child molesters is many, many times that of the average (maybe a 100X?).

I never said Scott was a molester, I simply reported the first thought that went through my head when I heard the news. As a victim myself I think the many jokes being made about it are a bit over the top.

I put a smiley face..that is the universal "I can say what I want and not mean it" symbol for people who like to be dicks, and act like they did nothing..lol

I found your post in the other thread funny in how people responded, and by how you got defensive about it...no big deal, I really do find it funny..

Re: So Apparently Amazon Threw The Ban Hammer At Me

It looks like requesting price matches qualify as a return (amazon lowers price and you request them to match their own price)

It looks like amazon marketplace sellers can also screw you by claiming YOU returned an item even if it was the seller that canceled the order.

We would need many more details to determine if amazon is right or wrong

If you feel this is in error, it would be worth emailing the office of the CEO

You will not get to speak with Jeff, but instead you will get a higher level of customer service that MIGHT be able to help you if you play your cards right with them.
