After World War II veteran Ronald Brown died last week in England, his family had him cremated, but when his ashes came back, so did six ounces of shrapnel that had been lodged in his leg.

I'd say all the pins, staples and screws were from the casket. Can a family member please sift through all that junk and show us shrapnel from the land mine?

Richard Powell, from the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities, said most coffins were built using screws and staples and some of these could have remained after a cremation.

I'm pretty ignorant on the whole cremation thing but they put you in a coffin before they incinerate you? That seems like a waste of a grand.

I will have to check with my sister. I think there are cardboard cremation coffins. I doubt there would be a casket. But going over with a magnets, and I believe there is some sifting, and even a blender for the large pieces of bone.

That seems crazy! Why would these people want to sell you something you don't need in your time of vulnerability?

I know right? I went through this relatively recently when my mother died. Man there's good business in dying.

Re: 40oz. to Random Freedom Picture Thread

9! = 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 = 45
√45 (the square root of 45) is somewhere between 6 and 7, because 6^2=36 and 7^2=49. When I use a calculator, it's 6.7. But I really only need to know that it's not an integer.
6.7 - 1 does not equal 5.

Now, if the factorial is outside the square root, it does work:
√9 = 3.
3! = 1+2+3 = 6.
6-1 = 5.

Factorial is multiplied, not added.
9!= 362,880

Posting at 3 AM. Sigh. I was confusing ! with Σ.

Anyway, (√9)! = 3! = 3x2x1 = 6.
