Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

Otter, if SOPA/PIPA passes, we will have to worry about much more than the mods! I will not be posting nor visiting here on January 18th. Who will join me?!

Re: Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

Why, does Internet Brands publicly support SOPA? What's the objective in not visiting or posting?

Re: Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

What exactly is this supposed to accomplish? Do boycotts really work? Especially of a website?

Maybe I should boycott downloading my movies and TV shows from torrents for a day. They'll listen then.

I hope that goes for spammers as well!

Hmmm, 543 posts in 12 1/2 years, that works out to an average of 0.12 posts per day. Are you really sure you'll be able to resist posting tomorrow? You'll probably be crawling the walls.

I meant it kind of tongue in cheek, if only to draw attention to the larger blackouts. Read up on SOPA and PIPA on the links provided and then contact your representatives. If these bills pass we're seriously done here.

You are not your post count, but I'm a 99'er

I would like IB to take part in the blackout as well. And that's coming from a guy who is clearly addicted to being here.

I'm conflicted. I'd join you, but I'm going to now compulsively check this thread all day tomorrow to find out who will also blacklist the site, and then check to remaining threads to see if they hold themselves to it. As with most Otters here, I'm far more interested in holding people accountable to their own views then solidifying my own stance or principles.

Besides, I'd miss all you guys :grouphug: and would likely be forced to be productive at work.

Re: Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

I have to be at work tomorrow. So, no, I won't boycott this website. If IB wanted to shut down for the day, I would support their choice.

Re: Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

C'mon, IB....go black for the day. Seriously, this effort needs more effort. I'm pissed Amazon won't be black, and I'm pissed google is just doing a little link. If they would both go dark, and if Facebook would, with email links to their representatives, this would be over.

No more Random Picture Post threads?

Re: Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

Never heard of SOPA/PIPA. Just skimmed the Wiki page and think I get the jest of it.

I'm conflicted about what bothers me more. Dickheads who steal movies and music on the net. Or government administered internet censorship. Both are evil.

This website should black out. Though it would suck a lot.

If you want your representative to actually read your message then write your letter and mail it to them.

Re: Otter SOPA/PIPA Blackout

I'm sorry, that would require actually doing something, and I'm not really looking to get up off my ass.

So would IB be accountable for all the wonderful pictures that people post here? Or only if they host it?
