CK is all grown up! What's that sound? Wedding bells? Also: job concerns

That's right everyone! I went from 15 years old to 25 in the blink of an eye. On October 26th I proposed to my girlfriend Adrienne Ognibene, who I had been dating for 5 years.

We've been doing the long distance thing for a bit. She's in New Orleans going to Loyola Law School, and I've been working in New York City and our relationship has only flourished.

We'd been talking about marriage for the past few months and had even set a date. I felt as if the surprise of proposing had been taken away from me... until I hatched a plan. I was planning on coming to New Orleans for Halloween, but I planned to come into town a day or two early and catch her when she least expected me.

Her brother helped me hatch the plan, and when the day came, I was waiting in one of her favorite spots (the spot overlooking the Saint Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square on one side, and the water on the other), and I got down on one knee and asked her the question.

She said "yes" obviously... I mean come on... it's me.

Her and I calling our friends and family

Anyway the wedding is August 3rd, 2012 in New Orleans (details at http://www.adieandandrew.com in case you were wondering) and we couldn't be more thrilled. She'll be graduating from Law School in May.

On to my main concern...

We plan on moving to Washington DC, and I plan on leaving my job in May/June.

I have about two weeks of PTO, and my supervisors like to get a rough layout of time off for the year. Now obviously I'd like to use all my time off before I leave for good, however... if I map out all my PTO before the wedding, they're going to ask questions like "You're not taking time off for your wedding or honeymoon?" and then well... they'll know I'm planning on leaving.

Now... Is that such a bad thing? I know a two week notice is standard, and I plan on giving them more than that... but if I tell them now that I plan on leaving in the summer... what's to stop them from replacing me now and leaving me jobless?

How do I handle letting them know? Do I put all my PTO requests for other dates and let them put the pieces together? Do I pull my supervisor aside and tell him straight up my plans? Do I assign my PTO for my wedding and just take it as an extra paycheck later?

What would you do?

First of all congratulations. I would keep my PTO and get it on my last check, extra money is always good, and I would not give notice until necessary.

Congrats!

Funny seeing folks grow up on the internet.

If you leave, can you not cash out your PTO?

Thanks for the congrats.

Yes I can cash out my PTO, but I'd rather use it all to take a nice vacation in February for Mardi Gras. So if I take it all then, they'll know I'm leaving sooner than they should know.

That would be a very nice amethyst. She is not a big fan of diamonds and has told me (and my friend Alison who had been prodding her for engagement stone ideas) that she much preferred a ruby or amethyst.

Congrats! Amazing that a lot of us have been around here together for over 10 years, and going through life's milestones.

When the hell did you become 25 and engaged? Christ I feel old.

Congrats!

She's really traded up. Morpheus is a much cooler last name than Ognibene.

Congrats she looks very happy. Keep that picture so you can remind her how happy she was years before calling you a good for nothing jerk. ;)

Congratulations!

If you are working at the kind of place where if you were to be honest and tell them that you are leaving in the summer their response might be to replace you as soon as possible, I'd keep my mouth shut and do whatever benefits you the most. Obviously, they don't care about you as a person who wants to lead a fulfilling life. Just my two cents.
