Bathroom stall etiquette?

So, when you're in the stall doing a number 2 in a public bathroom is it proper to make some kind of noise to let people know that you're in there? I don't mean butt noises--I just mean like clear your throat or shuffle your feet or something like that.

This has happened to me twice now. I work in a small office building that has 2 floors with one set of men's and women's bathrooms on each floor. Obviously those bathrooms are shared by everybody that works there along with any visitors. The entire building has probably a dozen tennants and they're small offices so we're not talking about that many people. In any event, on two seperate occassions, I've been in the stall doing my business and somebody came in, used the urinal and turned the light off when he left. First of all, who turns the light off in a public bathroom? Maybe it's the same guy that did this to me twice, but I can only assume that he didn't know I was in there because I was quiet.

So, it is proper to like announce your presence while you're in the stall so A. somebody doesn't turn off the light and B. so the other person doesn't think he's alone?

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

I always make a little noise so that some dumbass doesn't try to enter my stall. Even if it's locked I hate having to yell "occupied!"

I never thought about someone turning the light off on me.

Chuckling at the thought of someone entering the restroom 30 seconds later, flipping the lights on and then realizing someone is in the stall.

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

I've never worried about someone turning out the light. I have freaked when there's not enough toilet paper on the roll. Also, maybe I'm too polite but I don't want to make crap noises when someone's in the bathroom. Harder to do when someone is taking a shit in a stall next to you.

That and I don't want to turn the light back on just as somebody else is coming in. They guy would probably think I'm a lunatic for hanging out in a pitch dark bathroom.

As soon as you hear someone else in the room, state the following in stentorian tones:

"WELCOME. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE BROWNS TO THE SUPER BOWL. CARRY ON, BUT LEAVE THE LIGHT ON WHEN YOU LEAVE."

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

When you're in the stall, start panting loudly and making huffing sounds, and shout out "Harder! Go deeper Bruce! Hnnnh! Oh, god! Oh god!"

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

I only make pooping noises when I'm standing at the urinal. If I get a funny look, I just say, "What, you've never heard someone take a shit before?"

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

I like using the restroom in total privacy, so I start singing.

I don't think it's the fact that i'm singing so much as how bad it is.

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

I too like total privacy, so how is it that every time I go into the bathroom at work there is already someone in there taking a shit? Do that many people really crap at work?

I crap at work as often as I can. I don't get paid for doing it elsewhere.

Better that than taking cell phone calls on the crapper. That annoys me. Whose life is that important that they can't wait until they leave the restroom to answer a call?

Re: Bathroom stall etiquette?

Why don't you just flush the toilet?

Also why do people have to make noises when pooping?

Other then the flushing sound I'm trying to stay as quiet as I can but there always seems to be some guy come and start dropping as soon as he hits the bowl then immediately starts with the grunting and moaning and ahhing?

People should always observe the 1-stall buffer zone rule whenever possible.
