My new pet peeve: Small change instead of quarters

Lately I've been getting fucked by the dry cleaner and a few other businesses I frequent. The crime: Shitty change. I use my credit card for almost everything, but for cheap items I'll use cash, I'm not a dick who would inconvenience a retailer by using a credit card for $2.25 at the dry cleaner or $1.15 for coffee. But what do I get in return for my consideration? Dimes and nickels! If something costs $2.25 and I give you three dollars why the fuck are you handing me back seven dimes and a nickel? Does this happen to anybody else? Anything less than a quarter is worthless to me and I don't want it banging away in my pocket.

Re: My new pet peeve: Small change instead of quarters

Isn't it weird that we drink milk, stuff designed to nourish baby cows? How did that happen? Did some cattleman once say, "Oh, man, I can't wait 'til them calves are done so I can get me a hit of that stuff."

Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty violent image there. I think if you've got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe laundry isn't your biggest problem. Maybe you should get rid of the body before you do the wash.

Have you ever noticed how they keep improving your laundry detergent, but they still can't get those blue flakes out? Why do we trust them to get our clothes clean? These guys can't even get the detergent white!

Did you see these new minivan ads? All they talk about are cup holders, kiddie seats and doors. What kind of advertising is that? When you see an ad for a suit, do they say, "And look at the zipper! Carefully hidden, but easily accessible when you need it!" I think not!

Here in Utah, all change is given out in pennies, since that's the only coin with a Republican on it.

What are your other "pet peeves"? I can't imagine the issues you must go through...

OP that is rough. My prayers for you and your family. Hopefully you can find a way through this situation. It'll take some time and some healing, but this too shall pass.

What do they say when you ask them if you can have quarters instead of the shitty change?

Your head would have exploded last night, when I was at school, I got a Snapple from the vending machine, put in $2.00 got $.75 cents back in dimes and nickles. Its a conspiracy, to get all of the quarters out of circulation.

Re: My new pet peeve: Small change instead of quarters

I think you should make them refund your money and then redo the transaction using your credit card. Tell them that until they can provide proper change, you will charge everything! That will teach them!

I get change like this from time to time since I do use cash, so what? 7 dimes spends the same as 2 quarters and 4 nickels, even in vending machines

I would object to 70 pennies, but 7 dimes are not that heavy.

Re: My new pet peeve: Small change instead of quarters

On the flip side, I was just at Starbucks and the older lady in front of me had to pay with exact change. So she gets the bills and then the change purse. She counts out a bunch of dimes and pennies. The part that drives me nuts is when they put the coins down on the counter and the cashier needs to scoop them all up. Put them in her hand, you lazy fuck. I hated that move with a passion when I was a high school cashier.

By the way, Mabuse sounds exactly like that dude that used to post here from Orange County and had some big to do over his garbage cans. Can't remember his name.

That's nothing. If you go through the self-checkout at my local grocery store and get "Cash Back", it will give you all $5 bills. Nothing says high-roller like a wad of fives.

Throw the change and yell something like "I'm not your whore!" That will teach them a lesson and shame them into keeping enough quarters around.

Re: My new pet peeve: Small change instead of quarters

Sounds like you're not familiar with the new TV Game/Reality Show "Quarter Hoarder"
It's hiliarious hidden-camera hijinks as contestants, armed with a roll of one-dollar bills, try to convince ordinary people to give them change. It's not as easy as you might think, there are not many payphones or parking meters these days. Just wait til you see the zany excuses and uncensored reactions. The person earning the least quarters each week is has to toss a coin to see if he gets to stay on the show (Heads) or if he goes home (tails). Your vote will decide who among the top three earn the title of "Quarter Hoarder".

Thursdays on MTV. Premieres Nov 3.

No, I'm the guy from Orange County whose neighbor won't let him park in front of his house.
