The 2011-2012 Winter Thread of Ice & Snw

I have family out West that already got 6" recently. Here in NY, we're due for snow tomorrow. We won't get much accumulation, though.

Is everyone mentally prepared for this?

The mere thought of snow is enough to make me want to freaking hang myself.

I hear ya. Every year it gets harder and harder to deal with. Not so much the snow, but the cold really bugs me.

I love snow! I just don't love it when I don't have power at my house.

Same here. I'm only 28, but after the last few terrible winters here in WI, I'm sick of it. I vowed not to bitch about the heat and humidity this summer, and didn't...and my job is flexible enough that I'm planning on spending a month in Hawaii this winter, so it should be much more tolerable.

Luckily, I only lost a few smaller branches in my backyard. My neighbor to the North had a rather large branch fall onto her deck and back door from her neighbor's trees. The people at the end of the block lost most of their giant cottonwoods. No power outages, though.

Power didn't come back until midnight or so. We had to go spend the night at a friend's house.

the local news here are estimating such wildly different amount it's hilarious. I'm going to guess that my area will get like 4-5". We'll see how close I am.

No snow here, but there was some in the mountains to the north of us.

I'll welcome any moisture we can get. The long-range forecast has the drought continuing for another year or more. At our house, there was not one drop of rain for the first six months of the 2011.

Those of you who live where no snow falls will die much earlier in the zombie apocolypse. We can go out and behead them after they freeze. Suckers.

My sources are doing the same exact thing. I'm reading 2-4" and 4-8". I guess I'll find out for sure when I have to wake up for work tomorrow morning.
