I think that I have a raccoon in my attic.

I've heard some scratching / scraping around the attic lately and my next door neighbor had a raccoon in his attic a couple of years ago. And there's a hole into the attic, though it may be from questionable porch construction (the porch was added after the house was built).

Anyway, I looked around up there but didn't see any obvious signs of raccoon traffic, but set up a trail camera. I'll see what it comes up with in a few days.

Once I know what it is I can figure out how to get rid of it.

Re: I think that I have a raccoon in my attic.

You may want to find the thread from a few months ago when another member had a racoon in their attic. Oh, and you could die from brain parasites.

For your DVDTalk instincts to kick in and providing pics

I anxiously await your wife's accusations that you are having an affair with the raccoon.

I would say the noises you hear come from a desperate raccoon which is trying to give a even more desperate guy a handjob with happy ending!

Or she'll accuse him of hiding other women in the attic and say he's setting up the camera to take pictures of their wild sex parties.

I found the skeleton of a Raccoon under my mom's house. It was creepy. Not nearly as creepy as a live pissed off Raccoon though. I'd move.

Re: I think that I have a raccoon in my attic.

Turned out to be mice though I saw a way for raccoons (or other critters) to get in, I've closed it off.

For the mice I put out two Topcat glue traps - complete crap. Both of the traps had, and lost, a mouse as well as the bait. These are glue on paper as opposed to the old style of glue on plastic, which used to work well.

So I put up some normal snap style mouse traps and caught one. I'll keep putting out some traps for the next few weeks to see if there are ohers.

That's the ones I use when we get mice come in. They work pretty good.

Re: I think that I have a raccoon in my attic.

I could never use the glue traps. My grandmother used to live right behind a field and would get loads of mice in her house depending on the season. The thought of just dropping a live mouse that was stuck on a little platform into the trash just creeped me out too much for whatever reason.

That's why you snip it's leg and let it bleed out first.

Re: I think that I have a raccoon in my attic.

For mice on glue traps, I'd always put a chisel against their neck and tap it with a hammer. Sounds harsh but much more humane than tossing them alive into the trash.

And I've gotten a couple of mice out of the attic already, using the old-fashioned snap traps.

I always appropriately discipline my mice with a little belt. They had it coming.

Back when we used to have mouse issues, I'd hope to catch two mice on separate glue traps. If I did, I'd sandwich the traps together in such a way that allowed the mice to gnaw on each other while trying to get free.

Damn! This is about a real raccoon ....... I assumed this was a euphemism, like "ants in my pants" and "bee in my bonnet" ........
