Man pulls a MURDOCH on his family and himself (New York)

Man apparently killed wife, 2 kids, himself in Cross River murder-suicide

CROSS RIVER A family of four is dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide committed by the husband and father, police said.

State police said Tuesday that the father, mother and two children were found dead at 2 Lambert Ridge Road.

State police identified the parents as Amy Friedlander, 46, and Sam Friedlander, 50. The children were Gregory, 8, and Molly, 10. Amy Friedlander ran a tutoring service and Sam Friedlander was a lawyer.

State Police Maj. Michael Kopy said this morning initial investigation indicates that Sam Friedlander killed his wife and children, then shot and killed himself. Kopy said police are waiting for an autopsy to determine the cause of death of the wife and children.

The parents were in the midst of a divorce.

The bodies were found all around the three-story house, he said. "It was a fairly complex scene. It took a while to process," Kopy said. The bodies were removed sometime after midnight.

Police have scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. in Hawthorne.

This morning, a sole state police SUV was posted outside the house and keeping a half-dozen television news satellite trucks and a group of reporters across the street. A porch light was on at the house, but no lights were on inside. There was no police tape around the property, the police car the only sign of Tuesday's tragedy. Along the street, every once in a while a light would go on in one the large single-family homes. Residents at two of the homes did not want to talk about the deaths this morning.

A trooper went to the house Tuesday after state police received a request to check on the welfare of one of its occupants at 3:40 p.m.

The trooper got into the house, quickly found two bodies and retreated, calling for backup. Police then found the other bodies. The house has been for sale about five months, according to real estate websites.

The Lewisboro school district issued a statement Tuesday night, saying Gregory and Molly Friedlander were Lewisboro Elementary students. It said that all schools will operate on a regular schedule and that "the building crisis team at Lewisboro Elementary School and the district crisis team will provide support as needed." (School announcement: http://www.klschools.org.)

A May 14, 2000 wedding announcement in the New York Times described
Amy Friedlander as a vice-president for Chase Manhattan Bank and a Cornell University graduate. She received her MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Currently, she was a partner in John Jay Prep, an academic and college test prep tutoring service with a Goldens Bridge mailing address.

Friedlander's business partner in the tutoring service, Deborah Bernstein, posted this on the site this morning: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Amy Friedlander and her children Molly and Gregory. Amy was not only a business partner but a personal friend and loving mother. She will be truly missed by us and the
community at large." (John Jay Prep website: http://johnjayprep.com.)

Sam Friedlander was an associate counsel of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in Manhattan, according to the wedding notice. He graduated from Skidmore College and received a law degree from Western New England College.

Kopy said police have been told that he was currently a lawyer locally but they hadn't been able to confirm that.

Lambert Ridge is a large loop, dotted with nice homes that real estate Web pages say are valued from $800,000 to $1 million. It is near Route 35, north of the Cross River Reservoir. The neighborhood, Michelle Estates, was developed by financier Carl Icahn.

No. 2 is listed at $799,000.

"This is devastating in our community," Lewisboro police Chief Frank Secret said. "This is something we are not used to."

Lewisboro is a town of about 13,000. Cross River is one of its six hamlets.

Secret said he knew of no reports of domestic violence at the house.

I fail to see how this relates to the pilot of the A-Team.

I thought he took a bunch of trash bags, used commercial hair dryers, and floated out of prison.

The trooper got into the house, quickly found two bodies and retreated, calling for backup...

Did he think it was the Zombie Apocalypse or something.
