Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary

Gimme your best Bloody Mary recipes if you got 'em.

I'm sure everyone would agree that bottled mixers aren't the way to go (right?), so I'm looking for some good, homemade recipes that kick ass. I like them traditional, although any concoction that involves including bacon somehow would also be accepted.

The Columns Hotel Bar in New Orleans. Hands down I think the best.

2 ounces vodka
4 -6 ounces v 8 vegetable juice
1 teaspoon horseradish
1/2 teaspoon fresh lime juice
4 dashes Tabasco sauce
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 pinch celery salt

1. Mix together all ingredients and pour over ice in a Collins glass.
2. Garnish with pickled green beans (they called these spiced beans in New Orleans), 2 olives and a celery stalk.

^That's where I had the best Bloody Mary in my life. The 14 oz. Bacon Bloody Mary. Holy fuck - it was otherworldly.

Re: Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary

I wish I liked Bloody Marys. I can't get past the Tomato Juice. My dad got one once that he absolutely loved, it had lots of Black Pepper and BBQ sauce in it, I'll see if I can find the recipe.

I like spicy things. I love tomatoes. I like tomato juice.

I can't drink Bloody Marys. They're not disgusting, I just don't see the appeal.

Re: Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary

Some excellent recipes here but for my personal taste I skip the horseradish.
I don't like a Bloody Mary to taste like shrimp cocktail sauce.

Demitris is a very good mix. Well it's not technically a mix I suppose.
It's a concentrated flavoring that you add maybe a good size tablespoon of it per drink. Then you only need your favorite garnish.
I believe it's regional but Amazon has it.

I don't like tomato juice, but even if I did I don't think I'd like blood marys. I don't need a bunch of veggies with my alcohol.

Do they do something to the tomato juice or is just just regular V-8 or tomato juice out of a can? If they don't do anything to the tomato juice to "spice" it up, I just don't see how this recipe is any better than any other bloody mary. Vodka, tomato juice, hot sauce (tabasco or whatever), Worcestershire sauce and salt IS a bloody mary. I mean that's the go to recipe. Everything else is just flair--the beans, the olives, pickles, shrimp, beef stick, cheese cube, bacon, or whatever.

If a place doesn't do anything to its tomato juice they might as well just buy Finest Call bloody mary mix and add some garnishes.

I'm more curious what the good places do to the tomato juice to make it better because anybody can just add tobasco and Worcestershire sauce to tomato juice and call it a bloody mary.

Re: Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary

local place's recipe that i enjoy:

1 1/4 0z ABSOLUT Orient Apple
1/2 tsp fresh wasabi root
3, 1 1/2 inch pieces of peeled fresh ginger
bacon salt for rimming
roasted tomatillo juice(recipe available!)
slice of granny smith apple
goat cheese stuffed olive
ice

In a shaker, add wasabi root, peeled ginger and Orient Apple, lightly muddle. Add ice, top with fresh tomatillo juice and shake. Transfer to a highball glass rimmed with bacon salt. Garnish with apple slice and goat cheese stuffed olive. Tomatillo recipe available upon request!

Re: Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary... Bloody Mary

I usually use Mr & Mrs T's Premium Bloody Mary Mix and add a couple of dashes of Lee & Perrin's Worcestershire sauce on top and stir. Pretty tasty for me.

That's not a Bloody Mary, that's a Clamdigger.
