Looking back i think we would've been a whole lot better off if we just Nuked the hell out of Afghanistan and leaved it at just that.

It's really interesting seeing the comments and those predicting the response. It's really sad that ten years later we still have not recovered.

I had just read that thread a few days ago. Doesn't seem like 10 years ago.

You can really see how this forum has changed/grown since then.

Between the time of the first plane hitting and the towers collapsing (which is around 1+ hour roughly) the thread grew to 14 pages. Nowadays, Oscar or footballs threads grow at the same rate. A 9/11 type event now would probably have a thread 20x the size in the same timeframe - or would probably just bring the server down.

I know for me, I discoverd the "Other" forum due to 9/11 (think I had a different username back then).

I was in that thread for the majority of that day following the events alongside the television coverage. Just about every news outlet available online was down due to the extraordinary traffic.

I didn't join till after that but i had read through that thread before. For me i remember being at work and my boss came to the back and told us that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. We then put on the radio and listened for the rest of the day.

Man, I don't want to read it. I remember my middle son was just a few months old, and all I could think about was what kind of a world I had brought a child into.

Was the thread closed after the 14th page or is that all that was archived from it? It seemed to abruptly end on page 14.

After two commercial airliners have hit the World Trade Center Towers:

tsohg chimes in with..."My God I hope no one is hurt".

Yeah hindsight, 20/20 and all that but...really?

Apologies to tsohg if you're reading this.

There were quite a few comments like that on the thread. But many of the people that posted were at work and did not have access to television, and the internet news services were down so it would have been difficult to comprehend at the time.

The George Lucas whine-fest over in HD talk is currently at 99 pages.

There was a continuation but it was lost, I think back in the day 300 was a thread limit.

I still believe we should have nuked Afghanistan as well as Pakistan. Probably would have save us billions of dollars and countless losses of American soldiers lives.

Pretty sure I used that thread to follow what was going on since most of the major news sites were knocked offline due to the traffic. I'd read 5-6 posts and then relay what info I could to my students.

I believe we should have concentrated on the type of special-ops that actually netted bin Laden and left that shithole country alone.

Re: 9/11/01 in real time on DVD Talk, an archived thread.

crazy to see that Iron Chef was there. I was 15 in a webmasters class making a website. About 30 kids in a room making stuff. Class had started but our teacher was out printing some stuff. Soooo we goofed around and just online doing whatever...slowly though...we started noticing weird shit going on. It was very weird that a bunch of us had to hack sites to get access to get as much info. Was weird. I didn't freak out but my first thought was....wtf...it takes some huge balls to attack us here. We stayed in school the whole day and it was very weird.

Re: 9/11/01 in real time on DVD Talk, an archived thread.

The problem with the whole nuke idea was there wasn't one specific target to hit. I mean if Gadhafi had called up on 9/11 and said "How do you like them apples?" I'm sure the US would have responded with their own "apples" but of course that was not the case.

This.

No offense to the deaths of the many soldiers that died but...Al Qaeda wasn't such a big thing (in terms of size) to nuke them. I don't think the US should've gone all Commando on them. Like what Jason said...that probably would've been better. BUT it was a shit situation to begin with. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. People are stupid in hysteria, god...I remember the idiots in my class just talking crazy shit.

I've read through it a few times. But I still always smack my head against the desk when I get to "My God I hope no one is hurt."
