Man, seems like being the Worlds' Oldest Person is a death sentence. And you thought Jack Harkness had it bad.

I wonder if either of them continued the tradition and has a teen aged child.

My father (born 1945) tells me that as a child he would see Civil War veterans. At parades and other functions his mother would poke him and say, "Make sure you always remember, that man there is a Civil War veteran."

Still alive and kicking (well maybe not kicking) so Happy B-Day!

"On Tuesday, this otherwise unassuming woman marked her 117th birthday, celebrating among friends with a cake at her home in Verbania."

I'll counter that. I hope she survives into 2017 and beyond!

Re: Guess who died again? That's right, the World's Oldest Person.

I read a story about her the other day. She was told by her doctor to eat three eggs a day, one cooked and two raw. She's down to two a day now but they estimated she ate 1,000 eggs a year for almost a century. That came out to over 98,000 eggs.

Goo goo ca choo, indeed.

While 3 eggs per day isn't good for your cholesterol, I'm sure the rest of her diet was fruits/veggies, no processed crap.

She's probably not the last person born in the 19th Century though because anyone born in the year 1900 was still born in the 19th Century.

I would definitely like to make it into my 80's or older if I'm still in good shape and independent. But Damn. 117? Wonder how long she was sitting in a nursing home?

She died in her apartment which, apparently, she hadn't left for 20 years. Only had full time "home care" for the last 2 years.

That's too bad. I always found it cool that there was a person still alive that was born in the 1800s.

RIP

^? Not from the 1800s.

19th century, yes, but not 1800s.

1900 is the last year of the 1800s. Our calendar begins with the year 1, not 0.

Re: Guess who died again? That's right, the World's Oldest Person.

No. The last year of the 1800s is 1899. The first year of the 1900s is 1900.

It makes no difference when the calendar started. 1800s simply refers to years of the form 18**.

You're confusing century with year.

You're not the one that didn't understand the Monty Hall problem, are you?
