Where to eat around San Diego?

I'm going to be there for several days and am looking for places to get good food from Encinitas down to San Diego, mostly along the coast.

I found one place that looks like a possibility, Pamplemousse Grille in Solana Beach. Any other suggestions? Good Mexican food is especially appreciated.

Hodad's is really good, but you will probably have to wait in line to get in. I always like the old spaghetti factory downtown as well.

Re: Where to eat around San Diego?

Best breakfast in SD is The Mission. There are three of them. I suggest the North Park or East Village one.

Vagabond (go for lunch, paninis are amazing, dinner isn't great) in South Park.

Cafe 21 on the border of Normal Heights/University Heights.

Tajima (Japanese) on Convoy.

Sultan Banoo (Persian) in University Heights.

The Kebab Shop downtown.

Bread on Market downtown.

D.Z. Akins (Old Jewish Deli) near La Mesa.

Sushi Deli in Hillcrest - food isn't extraordinary but it is DIRT cheap and a SD institution.

Canada Burger in City Heights.

Crazy Burger in North Park.

Amarin Thai in Hillcrest.

Spice & Rice Thai Kitchen in La Jolla.

Mario's (Mexican) in La Mesa.

Swami's in Encinitas.

There are more.....

That sounds pretty good. I may be around that area, but I don't think I'd make a special trip to OB for it.

We always hit up El Indio when in town. It's near downtown and the Airport.

There's also a Broken Yolk downtown.

This place is great if you want a different burger: gator, wild boar, ostrich..etc.

Lots of mexican taco places. Get a carne asada burrito!

For fish tacos, hit up Wahoo's or Rubio's.

You should talk to RandyC and have a mod-meet. You might get lucky and catch him when he's in town.

True story. When I was in the Navy, our ship was being built in Pascagoula, MS so some of us went out there almost a year early to get things up and running before the rest of the crew showed up. Anyway, a girlfriend of a co-worker went to Roberto's and bought 8 carne asada burritos, froze them and FedEx'd overnight out to Mississippi. We feasted the next day.

Re: Where to eat around San Diego?

When I lived in Japan, had mom freeze a couple, put in her checked baggage and mule them over to me when she came to visit. That was glorious!!!!

Re: Where to eat around San Diego?

Hodad's is bar none the best burger in San Diego. Worth the wait. If you go during the day on a weekday you shouldn't wait more than a few minutes. Get the bacon. While there you can cry about the demise of the FX series Terriers. 90% was shot within a few blocks of there (and inside Hodads as well).

Re: Where to eat around San Diego?

Mexican Food I enjoyed when I lived in North County:

Las Olas on Hwy 1 in Cardiff by the Sea (great location near the beach)

Hernandez Hideaway (on Del Dios Highway just east of Ranch Santa Fe)

El Comal in Poway

Roberto's (they're everywhere it seems) and Salazar's (San Diego) were good too

Sounds like a real possibility. I used to live there and I'll be staying close by.

I see they have chimichangas. I've been missing those for a long time. I was thinking of going to Fidel's or Tony's where I used to go when I lived there, but this might be a nice change.

I don't know when the last time you ate at La Bellas was but the food now is crap. I work fairly close to there and the guys order from there fairly often. If you are in Chula Vista and looking for similar food for a similar price Vini Vidi Vici. Incredible micro brew beer as well.

Re: Where to eat around San Diego?

I had dinner at Pamplemousse Grille tonight. Pretty good food, I wouldn't mind trying some other things on the menu.
