I have been meaning to go, but now a good friends significant other works there, so it is a stop I will certainly be making.

Perhaps you should bring him one. Short's still isn't available outside of Michigan, to my knowledge.

I had the Boulevard Chocolate Ale last night. It was pretty tasty. Sweet but not super sweet. A nice after-dinner beer.

Attended Beer Bout IV yesterday at Tribes in Mokena, IL
Dark Horse vs Tyranena

Seven rounds/Seven oz per beer
Dark Horse "won" the voting, 4 rounds to 3, but really there were no losers.

LOTS of good beer, and yes I was very drunk:

Dark Horse Boffo Brown Ale (5.5 ABV)
Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA (13.6 ABV)
Dark Horse Perkulator Dopplebock(7.5 ABV)
Dark Horse Scotty Karate Bourbon Barrel Scottish Ale (9.75 ABV)
Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA (6.0 ABV)
Dark Horse Too Cream Stout (8.0 ABV)
Dark Horse Tres Blueberry Stout (4.5 ABV)

Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA (5.8 ABV)
Tyranena Chief Blackhawk Porter (5.4 ABV)
Tyranena Dirty Old Man Rye Porter (7.9 ABV)
Tyranena Doubly Down N Even Dirtier Double Stout (7.5 ABV)
Tyranena Rockys Revenge Bourbon Brown (5.7 ABV)
Tyranena Sheep Shagger Scotch Ale (7.7 ABV)
Tyranena Spank Me Baby With Wood Barley Wine (9.0 ABV)

So, I tried HopSlam this weekend, and while deliciously good, it couldn't hold Hoptimum's bottle cap. Hoptimum is truely fantastic - I'm glad I've 3 bottlesleft.

The taste of hopslam in bottles right now is nothing comparable to it fresh. It is still good, but it is not the same beer at 1/11 when bottled. Thankfully, I get it at Bell's.

I don't know, it isn't that drastic. I'm still sitting on 2 cases in the cellar as I can drink that through June no problem.

Ah. Yeah, I like all their beers too, but the Vitus is my favorite, I think.

Two awesome Belgian style ales I enjoyed recently:

North Coast Brewing "Pranqster"
Unibroue "Don De Dieu"

Both are excellent.

Last night I enjoyed a taste comparison between cask-conditioned Hoplsam and traditional keg Hopslam at Tribes in Mokena, IL.

Winner: cask Hopslam

There's a tapping on 14th in my area. It's at 10pm - so I have to decide if I need to stay up past my bedtime

I will be there along with another Kalamazoo BA (kzoobrew). Likely getting up there around 9am.

Same here man. Just yell out "Steebo!" and I'll answer somewhere from the line

I'll have a few goodies to crack while we're waiting too.

I finally tried one of these while out for dinner last night, and enjoyed it quite a bit, to the point that it might be my new favorite Dogfish Head brew. Very sweet, and hides its 9% ABV very well.

No KBS for me this year. I haven't gotten even a single bottle in any of the past 3-4 years since I heard about it.

I don't have the time to go to the release event at the brewery and from reading recaps of it, it sounds like you have to get there pretty early and even then you aren't sure to get any. I don't know if they put a limit on how much you can buy, but at least this year, I've read of people that bought 2-3 cases. All the local stores in SE Mich that got it sold out instantly as they were lucky to get a case themselves.

The brewery really needs to amp up their production on it for each year. More and more people want it every year and it seems like they produce so very little.

I was looking forward to being happy if I even found a single bottle.

The only other beer that I crave is Dark Lord, but it isn't distributed in MI and I really think that you can only get it at that brewery one day a year. A couple years ago a friend had a bottle and let me and a few other people sample a small bit. Damn, that was some tasty beer.
