the star trek universal translator is finally here
this app just came out of iOS and will probably come to Android soon. very cool

The word replacement technology is neat, but the translation software is still the standard run-each-word-through-a-dictionary-and-hope-the-result-makes-sense algorhithm that everyone's been using since Babelfish came out. The app will be useful for street signs, but anything with complex grammar (or just a language with a different word-order) will end up gibberish. It's far from a Universal Translator.

I suppose one could just learn more languages. Then you wouldn't have to worry about your battery running down.

well the app is free but you have to pay $4.99 for the translator, only spanish is on there so far
separate price for E>S and another $4.99 for S>E
