Do you have a landline phone?

Most people I know are ditching their landline phones.

Do you still rock one? If so, why?

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Finally gave it up over the summer months. Had debated it for some time. Easy choice when it was decided to port the # over to a cell phone we were getting.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

I asked this question a couple years ago and was deluged by landliners who still had phones. A lot of landline owners are in areas without cell coverage and businesses are by far the biggest users of landlines.\

I only have a cell

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Have it only because my wife insists we have one. I won't even answer it. We don't even have long distance on it. Our DSL is wireless. There is no reason to have it, but we do.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

I went cell-only at least four years ago, come to think of it. I was paying so much less for cell coverage at the time (had a deal through my employer) that it made no sense to have a landline as well. I haven't missed it, doubt I'll ever go back.

I'm sure this is still an issue with some folks, but it's becoming less of one. I've got family who couldn't get a cell phone signal at their house a couple of years ago but they do now without a problem.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Cuz cell is convenient and being the college student I am. Living w/ roommates. It'd be a hassle to have a landline. Plus...cell is cheaper.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

We've got Ooma at home (VOIP) and before that, Magicjack for 2 years.

We run on prepaid cellphones as a supplment - the wife on Virgin, $25/mo for 300 min/unlimited text/data. Me on Boost, I go through $10-$20 a month on prepaid.

What I can't understand is the $70-$90 I hear people paying for cell service (or say $150/mo for 2 people). That's crazy to me. Whereas VOIP landlines are super cheap.

We used to run on a pair of Verizon phones - about $90/mo for both of us. We did this from probably 2004-2007. So I'm familiar with the cellphones as the only phones. VOIP is cheaper and more effective. But then again neither of us is obsessed with constant talking or super internet everywhere that so many people seem to be.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

I have crappy cell coverage at my house, so I've kept my landline for local and 800# calls. I guess that's a plus in case of an emergency if I can't dial 911 with my cell phone!

My cell phone is a "Go Phone" since I hardly use it, so I use the landline to save on my pre-paid minutes also.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

For me, FIOS + basic landline = cheaper than FIOS alone. I use my cellphone as my business phone.

We have one because our cable bundle through FiOS was cheaper with the phone included.

Ditched the landline in 2006. Don't see any reason while I'll ever have one again.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

I still have a land line. Mainly because my wife doesn't have a cell phone and because I'm not really a fan of cells.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Yes, we have one because the security system in our house is wired into it. Plus, some of our older relatives can't get used to the concept of people using a cell phone as their regular phone.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Dumped my land line several years ago. And I'm one that pays about $90 to $120 per month for cell service, but that's not much more than I paid for land line service since most of my family are a long distance call away.

Got rid of mine 20 years ago when I got my first cell phone. For once, I was a trendsetter.

Yes, because I work from home and the company pays for it.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

No. Haven't for about two years. The phone bill wasn't that expensive, about 35$ for pure basic and no long distance, but it was 35$ we didnt need to spend. We do have to pay a little more for the security system to use wireless. The cell phone bill is about 120/month but we use them as mobile computers more than we do phones.
Only concern is that when my boy is old enough to stay at home by himself, he will need some type of phone. Up till now if he's had a babysitter, they've always had a cell phone.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Haven't had a landline since 2008. And that wasn't even a real one, but the cable company VOIP that I had only because the cable package was cheaper with the phone.

A true POTS phone... probably been since 2006.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Dropped my landline in 2004. My parents actually did the same thing a few years earlier. The nice thing is all of my family and most of my friends have ATT so free calling to almost everyone.

Re: Do you have a landline phone?

Just got rid of my regular one yesterday for a cable one, so I guess I sort of still do.
