Do you use your parking brake?

I got into my wife's car after not driving it for awhile, and was reminded she always uses her parking brake. It's an automatic and she's always done it, but haven't used mine since I used to drive a stick about 10 years ago.

Anyway, just wondered if I was unusual or if she was.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

Yeah. I drive a stick, though.
Never used it for an automatic unless I was parking on a slope for some reason.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

We have two cars, one stick one automatic. I use the parking brake in both.

Only when i'm on a hill or a slight slant. In typical parking lots or the garage, nope.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

With my previous car, a stick, yes.
Current car, no - unless I'm parked on a really really steep hill. Which is rare to never - and I usually just turn the wheels into the curb like you're "supposed" to.

I'm actually somewhat surprised with the poll results. Of course the auto/manual factor is unknown.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

Hmmm... I'll have to check my vehicle next time I'm in it to see if I even have a parking brake.

Yes, with my manual.

But not when I drive Mrs Danger's automatic.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

I've never driven a manual. I used to use the p brake all the time but not so much now unless I have to since there are hills everywhere in this city. I heard that frequent parking brake usuage could damage your car. Don't know if that's true but if I used the parking brake, I would often forgot to reset it.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

I thought you were always supposed to! It helps save the transmission (or so I was told).

Same with me. I "curb" the wheels too when I'm parked on a hill.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

I should have a few weeks ago when I was changing a flat tire and my jack rolled out from underneath the car, thankfully my arms/hands weren't near it when it gave way....I will now more often.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

Manual transmission, always. I'm always shocked at how many drivers do not curb their wheels on hills. I always park uphill of those drivers.

Yeah, always. Manual. I think I used to use it all the time when I owned an automatic.

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

I use mine if I'm parked on an incline/decline to relieve pressure on the transmission. Otherwise, no. -kd5-

Re: Do you use your parking brake?

Only if parked on an incline, which is rare, maybe 3 times a year. Plus for fun when driving on ice.
