Haunting is more fun than torture.

Here's the story.

Your spouse* murders you so they can take the insurance money, and go live high with somebody else, who you hate.

You discover that there is an afterlife, and you are allowed to know and do quite a few interesting things. You learn that, unless you intervene, your murderer will not only never be punished, but will live well and happily to a ripe old age.

You are allowed to haunt this person, in order to get your revenge. You have many options. You can be visible to the murderer, or to other people. You can move things around, cause nightmares, and do other typical haunting stunts. You will suffer no ill effects or punishment for indulging in the haunting.

What's your choice?

1. Let it go, and get on with your afterlife.

2. Full on, blood dripping on the walls haunting aimed at causing the murderer to confess.

3. Rampant Amityville style haunting aimed at driving the murderer insane.

4. Haunting aimed at driving the murderer to suicide. (and negative consequences in the afterlife)

5. Haunt the new lover, rather than the murderer.

6. Something more subtle aimed at simply making the murderer miserable.

7. other subtle haunting.

8. Go haunt Twikoff.

*For those of you married to someone who would never do such a thing, for the sake of the story, pretend you are married to someone who would.

I think I'd keep piling on small, seemingly inconsequential things that would slowly drive the murderer into a sneaky hate spiral, as seen here:

Why would I want to make her unhappy just because she murdered me?

I like that. That's like getting into their sock drawer, and tying each sock in a knot.

Re: Haunting is more fun than torture.

I think being murdered would make me quite vindictive. 2-5 all sound like plans, the others not so much. The bastards better hope I'm right in believing there is no afterlife.

Party on! Letting them make each other miserable is better than anything I could do.

What? He's in love with an adulteress and a murderer.

If the afterlife is a rockin' party, I would move on. If the afterlife was an eternity of lameness, I would probably go for mallet's suggestion.

Re: Haunting is more fun than torture.

Life sucks so not only would I not haunt my killer but I'd come here and thank him/her.

Not married so it couldn't be my spouse.

Yeah, if there was an afterlife and its a party, why would I be pissed? The killer did me a favor.

Every time my killer has sex, I'll insert a baby carrot in his lover's anus while she sleeps.

Re: Haunting is more fun than torture.

If he or she killed only me, I'd rather just move on. If he or she was some sort of evil serial killer or had killed or presented a danger to my family, then I'd likely go full on Poltergeist until they were apprehended and put away or even driven to suicide.

I chose "other subtle haunting" because I found it to be the strangest collection of three words that I've ever read in my life.

It is a cunning plan.

I don't know about vengeance, but i know what is happening to Uncle Irv if he passes out on my couch again this Thanksgiving. That son of a bitch might even get a brussel sprout or two if he pisses me off enough.

Re: Haunting is more fun than torture.

Ghosts always seem really miserable to me in every movie I see or book I read about them, so I'm hoping I'd just move on.

Re: Haunting is more fun than torture.

That's only because miserable ghosts make for a better story.

I like the ghosts in that one X-files Christmas episode, they're pretty gleeful about their haunting.

I like the more subtle route. I'm a low-profile behind-the-scenes kinda guy.
