Vote for "The Greatest Gangster" in History (real life, not movie gangsters)

I'd have to go with Salvatore "Charlie Lucky Luciano" Lucania. He's basically credited with "organizing" crime, and between his great brain and ambition….I don't know, but if he wasn't a criminal, he'd be a man to be admired.

Do you mean Gangster as in anyone who robbed banks or Gangster as mafia-like characters?

If you are asking the broad question then it's gotta be Dillinger. If your asking about the latter, then I would say Capone.

Fun HBO trivia: When you're at home watching Boardwalk Empire, the voice you hear yelling "BOR-ING!" whenever Mrs. Schroeder is on screen is Buttmunker's.

For a Marxist who thought Vatican II didn't go far enough, don't you think you sound a little medieval?

I'll go with Capone on the name recognition alone, but I think Bulger made out best considering he's on the run and hasn't been caught yet.

why is Hymie Weiss not on the list? He is supposedly the only man that Al Capone ever feared.

What? No Louis "Lepke" Buchalter? He was the only major mob figure to actually be executed for his crimes. Slacker!

Gotta go with the hometown boy, Whitey. Still on the FBI's most wanted list.

I thought the only man he feared was George "Bugs" Moran, who was actually already dead, yet Al was still convinced he was after him (he had syphilis in his brain, poor bastard).

"Bugs" Moran actually looked like a friendly, funny guy:

Anyway, I ran out of room - couldn't fit everybody......should have put "Other" as the last option, sorry.
