Everyone, please create a new account at wikipedia and PM me the login and password.

Right now, I can't create a new wikipedia account because they've prevented my IP range (Verizon DSL in Pittsburgh, PA) from doing so at least until November 16.

If anyone here wants to create an account and PM me the login and password, that would sure help, and I would appreciate it. The block only applies to the creation of new accounts, so if someone outside my IP range creates an account, I can edit from that account. (Don't post it here, because I know of one person at wikipedia who monitors my posts here at DVD Talk).

You can create a new account here. You can skip entering the info about the email address because it's optional:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...rnto=Main_Page

The account name should be G-rated, and not make reference to any living person.

Thanks to anyone who does this!

The articles that I want to edit require that the account be at least 4 days old, and once I edit those articles, the account will be blocked. So it will help me if lots of different people create accounts for me. Thanks.

And even if no one creates any accounts for me, at least this gives me a reason to start a crazy thread.

Wikipedia has an IP block on most proxies as well, for this very reason.

That's too bad that your ip range got blocked. It sucks when one person ruins things for others. Hopefully the person in your area who was vandalizing wikipedia will find a productive hobby.

Actually, it was the consensus of dozens of editors that the articles on Barack Obama and Hugo Chavez should not contain certain true, accurate, well sourced information that is critical of them. It wasn't because of some "vandal" that my IP range was blocked - it's because the majority consensus at wikipedia wants the articles on Obama and Chavez to be puff pieces that skip over most of the bad things about them.

So the Chavez articles don't mention how he's wrecking the country's food industry, and the Obama articles don't mention the firing of Gerald Walpin, the dismissal of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case, the government taking ownership of 60.8% of General Motors, the bailouts, the illegally treating secured creditors worse than unsecured creditors, the broken promise to stop DEA raids on medical marijuana in states where it's legal, his broken promise to support school vouchers, or many other such things.

Your "war" against Wikipedia wages on, I see.

You've got PM!

It doesn't look like you have consensus to make those edits, so I'll pass. But if you have a small edit you need done to a non-political article I can help you out.

Thanks.

However, during the times when my IP range is not blocked, I've made plenty of non-political edits on my own, and most of those never get undone.

This means that articles are supposed to mention the good and the bad. But the articles on Obama and Chavez are largely puff pieces that falsely make Obama and Chavez look far better than what they actually are. By adding the negative info back to wikipedia, I am helping to enforce wikipedia policy.

I'd say you have just two options:

1. Move

or

2. Quit posting propaganda as fact, and maybe, just maaaaybe, they'll eventually lift the ban.

Tough call.

It's not "propaganda." Everything that I ever added was well sourced.

For example, all the stuff that was removed in this edit it stuff that I added, and all of it was properly sourced:

On September 12, 2008, Obama promised, "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." However, less than three months into his Presidency, he broke that promise when he raised the cigarette tax. A controversy arose in June 2009, when President Obama fired U.S. Inspector General [[Gerald Walpin]], after Walpin accused [[Sacramento]] mayor [[Kevin Johnson]] and St. HOPE Academy, a non-profit organization, of misuse of [[AmeriCorps]] funding to pay for school-board political activities. According to [[Associated Press]], Johnson is a supporter of Obama's.<ref name = "APJune122009">[http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D98P72OO0 Obama ousts AmeriCorps' IG who investigated friend], Associated Press, June 12, 2009</ref>

Wow. That post makes me glad I've (for the most part) given up on politics.

Hell, I wouldn't even have voted this year, but my gal did, and I went with her.

Grundle, do yourself a favor. Do "political" postings/rantings/entries on Wiki only one or two days per week (or even less). You'll be happier if you do, and I can guarantee you that (because I am). If you're not happier, your misery will cheerfully be refunded by the politicians, and of that I'm certain, also.

That was the best source that I could find for that.

Most of the other things have better sources.

I agree with you that it's important not to "overdose" on politics.

Well. maybe it's all true but it's not relevant. Yeah, that's the ticket.
