Skittles vodka, who's done it and is it good?

I was thinking a brita filter would be better then a coffee filter. Though it might take out too much sugar.

I had it, very sugary/syrupy the way it was made. It's one of those concepts thats great in theory but not in execution.

I did it, it was awful. Although I did mix regular with tropical skittles, so it might have been the combination.

Also I think some vegie oil made it though my cloth filter.

Here is the original internet sensation recipe I used back then.

On a related note, who has played Darkened Skye?

It's bad enough that people water down vodka with crap like OJ. This is just evil.

What the what? Vodka in an orange smoothie (made from frozen concentrate) rocks. Orange juice is good, too.

This ain't Prohibition. We don't need to dilute our booze to cover the taste. Be a man, drink it straight up.

Re: Skittles vodka, who's done it and is it good?

I made it, and it came out pretty well. Straining it is a major pain, and it took some trial and error to get the hang of it. I think what I finally wound up doing was straining it through four layered coffee filters, then scoop out anything that made it through the filter, then strain it through two more layered coffee filters. That should get almost all the sugary gunk out, but it's hard to get all of it.

Re: Skittles vodka, who's done it and is it good?

You guys fucking fail at doing things. Using a cloth that has veggie oil in it? Brita filters? Mixing different flavors in the same bottle?

What.the.fuck?

Separate the colors and only use one per bottle. Use about 25-50 per 750ml bottle and the important part is straining it. Take your time and do it a couple of times to make sure you strain everything out.

I've done Bacon Bourbon and Bacon vodka and I'll tell you, if you get it strained right then it's all the flavor without any of the gunk.

It's also a mixer and meant to be one. That shit is strong and since it's sugary it's by all means considered a sucker punch drink. Purple can get funky in terms of color.

I am not a 20-year old girl, so if I were to drink vodka, I don't need to add candy to it.

Re: Skittles vodka, who's done it and is it good?

I make Skittles all the time for parties. Girls really love it; guys, not so much. It will fuck with your head though, due to all the sugar.

My standard recipe, soaking 10 Skittles for every ounce of vodka. It doesn't really matter what type of vodka that you use (because it tastes like Skittles), but I typically use Smirnoff. I soak the Skittles overnight and shake them up at least 3 times during soaking.

To strain the Skittles, I use the cheapest coffee filters. 2 filters at a time (stacked on top of each other), but changing them frequently as the gunk starts to collect at the bottom of the filter. For a full 750ml bottle, I probably go though about 10 to 14 filters. Massage the filter to get the liquid completely out, but don't let the sugary gunk pop out the top. I also use a measuring cup and funnel to get the mixture back into the bottle. Be sure to skim the top of the mixture for leftover sugary gunk before pouring it back into the bottle for the best mix.

Pop it in the freezer for a few hours and you are good to go.

Fantastic mixers:

- Mix Regular Coke, Diet Coke or Coke Zero with the Cherry flavor for alcoholic Cherry Coke
- Mix Sprite with a mixture of the Lemon and Lime flavor.
- Mix the Grape flavor with Ginger Ale. (Trust me, this is the most requested drink at our parties)
- Mix the Orange flavor with Cream Soda to get an awesome Creamsicle flavor.

You can also do something crazy that we like to call Tasting the Rainbow; 5 shots, 1 of each flavor. I saw one person to taste the Double Rainbow and he was done for the day.

Here's the pic of my last batch:

It seems over-complicated. Buy artificial flavor and artificial color, and add a few drops of each to your vodka.

I've tried some of Flay's skittles vodka and he gets the job done.

Re: Skittles vodka, who's done it and is it good?

What does it mea-brgagghghaghgahgah

Flay has it down and as for those who don't like to fuck around with their drinks, do you also scoff at an old fashion as folks needing sugar to cover up their bourbon?

For parties it's a hit. That in itself is worth the adventure in culinary mad science.
