Everyone in my family was/is overweight. I never felt like I fit in because I was thin. I wanted to be overweight. And who is the coolest overweight person alive? Santa Claus!! Now that I am grown up I am not overweight and only Santa to two kids.

Astronaut, no.
Marine biologist, no.

I've got two others left. One, I'm sort of doing. The other, I hope to do when I have more time and money.

Re: What did you want to be when you grew up, and are you it now that you did?

When I was growing up I wanted to be two things - a writer and a pro-wrestler. Like another poster, I didn't have the genes to be a wrestler but kept doing it anyway, and almost went to train with Michael Modest, but didn't have enough money.

I'm a retail manager, so no, things didn't work out exactly how I'd planned, but I'm still writing (albeit not getting paid for it...yet).

Watching so much of it, I wanted to work in television when I was a kid and then spent over 10 years in the industry before I got really sick of it.

Runnin' my own business. Check.
Makin' movies. Check.

I'd like to build an army of well-paid people who support my ventures ... Fight Club style. It's been my next dream for awhile now. Any takers?

Honestly, I wanted to be an actor, but specifically a sitcom actor. That did not happen.

I never thought "I want to sit in front of a computer all day." Actually, I did think that, but I was imagining playing Commodore 64 games, not working in IT.

now that i'm a few years shy of 40, i think the idea of a kid dreaming about being someone is the most stupid thing that adults ever made up

Oh, my mind just wanders like crazy, so I moved onto wanting to be an astronaut (but that wasn't likely as I got sick on roller coasters). I finally settled on history, but after years of schooling I realized/admitted I had no interest in teaching. I'd love to go back to school for astronomy, but don't think that would make for much of a career change at this point in my life.

That didn't happen, either, but I had a helluva better time trying to do that than I would have, had I went for the paleontology thing instead.

Ditto, except for the rock star thing.

Dentist, and no. Although I did go to dental school for a year, and realized it wasn't for me. Now I just deal with networks, computers, et al. I love it and it sure as hell beats putting my fingers in any mouth ever again.

I used to want to be an actor when I was young until I found out I have terrible stage fright. That was the end of that.

I also wanted to be a marine biologist as well but one look at the number of math classes I had to take and I knew that wasn't going to happen either.

I wanted to be a DJ on the radio, went to school for it, had that as a job for 7 years, but got out when I needed enough income to support a family.

I was a total dinosaur nerd as a child.

Disney Animator. Traditional pretty much went away of course... but my first job outta school I animated some characters for a Disney Interactive game... so I did kinda do it. I suppose Disney could still be a possibility as a 3D or story artist.

I wanted to be a civil engineer. College calculus kicked my butt though

So I became a cop instead. No regrets, I do very well and will be retiring with full pay at age 53 or so.

don't most little boys go through a "dinosaur" phase when they're little? I mean, I didn't but I thought most did. I was 13 when jurassic park came out so I think I was a tad too old to be influenced much by it.

Although, I will say JP was one if the first movies that really got me to love movies.

Re: What did you want to be when you grew up, and are you it now that you did?

I wanted to be a teacher. I got my degree in Literature, taught for 2 years, hated it and quit. I'd worked jobs I didn't like before, but I didn't want to hate my career. Not to mention that I had teachers who hated their jobs as a kid. You could always tell the bitter teachers who were disappointed with their lives from the ones who actually loved what they were doing. I didn't want to be an angry old man in 20 years.

Then I moved to LA to try to get into screenwriting. It's only been in the last year that I've started making enough money to actually call myself a writer, mostly through ghostwriting features.

Astronaut, but when I realized they all (at that time) went through the military, i gave that up.
In 6th grade I thought being a scientist would be cool, got into biology during high school, and thought that I would be some type of "biologist"...got a PhD in neuroscience and now I run a research lab. It might seem that I was focused and driven, but I screwed around along the way and it was sort of the path of least resistance.

VERY FUNNY, 'JUNIOR'.

...but it's our differences that makes us UNIQUE!
