Fat and lazy? Sue your employer for it!

From Fox News:

SAO PAULO A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.

The ruling was signed Tuesday by Judge Joao Ghisleni Filho in Porto Alegre.

Ghisleni said McDonald's could appeal the case, and the Brazilian headquarters of the chain said in an e-mailed statement Thursday it was weighing its legal options.

McDonald's also noted that it offers healthier food choices.

"The chain offers a large variety of options and balanced menus to cater (to) the daily dietary needs of its employees," the company said in the statement.

McDonald's headquarters is in Oak Brook, Illinois.

************************************************************************

Last I checked, this wasn't Mastros, so I'm not sure what "high standards" he needed to continually confirm. Secondly, why would it be their fault that his fat ass wanted to save a few bucks by eating free lunches? I can already see frivolous lawsuits like this popping up in the States once this rapidly disseminates online.

My dad has worked at McDonald's for over 35 years and in the past several years he actually lost weight by sticking to the grilled chicken and salad options. He lives out of state and we go months without seeing each other, and he lost so much weight one time I thought he was sick.

Quite frankly, McDonald's must be a hell of an employer if people are working there for 12-35 years.

How do you say "delegate" in Portugese? He's not a good manager. Give him his money and fire him.

A friend of mine worked for McD for years. She would go through the drive-thru, order stuff, take one bite and fill out a report on the food. She'd go to 10 or more each week.

I knew a few people when I was university that were McD's managers; by all accounts they were very happy there. Some even considered dropping out and just keep managing.

$17,500. What currency do they use there, and how does it translate to US dollars.

Sue for that is the USA, and you'll probably walk away with a few million.

A co-worker told me about this earlier today and I found the ruling and the $17,500 reward rather odd indeed. What he failed to tell me was that this happened in Brazil. It makes more sense now.

Even if he had to sample the food each day, all it would take is 1 bite to see if it is good or not, not the whole thing. What are they sampling the food every 20 minutes?

It pays pretty well and they have a good retirement plan. I don't think I could ever do it myself, but for those who can I say good for them.

My dad works for a regional owner-operator (as opposed to working directly for corporate McDonald's). The O-O is a hard ass, but he's really started getting better with bonuses and such in the past several years, and I guess my dad just feels useful and that makes him happy.

I eat McDonalds literally EVERY day. People are amazed when I tell them. I'm in excellent shape. Granted, I NEVER order anything but two 4 piece chicken nuggets, small fries and a medium Coke.

Sheeet, if I worked at McDonald's I would weigh 600 pounds.

Wait, scratch that. I would probably be dead.

That ruling should be reversed and the judge should be dismissed for being ignorant. That frivolous lawsuits were ever allowed in the first place is a damned travesty. Now we have people crawling out of the woodwork, suing over stupid shit, and winning because the legal system is frakked and most lawyers are ambulance chasers. -kd5-

This was in Brazil, though. In America somebody already tried suing for McDonald's making them fat, lost, and McDonald's team of lawyers and lobbyists made damn sure nobody would be able to sue them again for it.

I don't recall the exact details, but I believe this was discussed in Super Size Me.

The saturated fat content is a bit rough, as is the sodium.

Oh, and the freaking nuggets are made from pink goo.

So only like 580 pounds based on slow decomposition?

actually, according to McDonalds, their nuggets are made from actual meat, not mechanically separated chicken.

Just in case anyone thought that was real. (Maybe you're just kidding around, I can't tell.)

Snopes exposed that story as complete bullshit. Chicken McNuggets are made from all white-meat chicken.

He's lucky he's in Brazil and only got fat. If this was an American McDonald's, he would've gotten a note in his paycheck telling him to vote Republican!!1

SHHH!!

The "average American" is too stupid to believe the truth, so we have to resort to alternative methods.
