What is your dad like?

My dad looks like Harrison Ford, but acts almost exactly like Mr. Spock. He also sorta looks like Mr. Spock...

I can still remember my first driving lesson:

"Okay. Get into the car and close the door. Put the key into the ignition and turn it clockwise. Then depress the brake pedal and take the gear shift lever and move it down one notch into reverse. Then SLOWLY reverse the car out of the driveway, making sure to look behind you as you back out. Make 100% sure that you're not going to hit anyone before you back out. Are you sure? good. Go. Bring the car to a complete halt after backing out. While keeping your foot on the brake pedal, now turn around and face forward and move the gearshift level two notches down into D, which stands for DRIVE, and then release the brake pedal and depress the gas slowly to move the car forward...."

That went on for about 2 hours.

Re: What is your dad like?

Sorry, I was reading Groucho's thread about the Tea Baggers and I kept thinking of what my dad said about them:

"Tea Baggers.... you know, maybe they should have looked that up on Urban Dictionary before they chose that slogan"

1. You're welcome.

2. My dad died 15 years ago, so he's not like much of anything these days.

He's not perfect, but my Dad is the person closest to being my hero. A great guy.

Re: What is your dad like?

Dead. I had to be the one that found him. That fucked me up a little honestly, especially the part of me performing CPR on him.

Re: What is your dad like?

My dad is awesome, he's the person I most admire and try to emulate. He's a retired math professor, and he reads voraciously about a wide variety of subjects. People with preconceived ideas about what a math professor would know are usually surprised by his depth of knowledge about history and politics. He has the best vocabulary of anyone I know. He's soft spoken, kind and he can hold a conversation about anything with anyone. He currently battling cancer, and I hope he has at least 8 years left. I'd really like for him to see his grandchildren graduate from college.

Re: What is your dad like?

I've never met my dad. I do know that he is a tattoo artist and has his own shop out in Port Hueneme, but I have never had any contact with him whatsoever.

Re: What is your dad like?

It's sad to see the number of bad fathers between this and the "original" thread wishbone linked to.

My dad, who is not religious, agreed to my mom's sole requirement of allowing her to raise any kids Catholic, and did whatever he had to do to support the resulting nine of us, even somehow being able to send all of us to private schools. Growing up, I never felt like we were wanting for anything but a larger house, although I'm not sure any house would have been big enough. He might be the hardest worker I have ever met, and still is at age 60. His bullshit storytelling, like his father's before him, is starting to wear on all of us, but I will miss it terribly when it's gone.
