Poll: Nostalgic chick bike basket

What do you think would be a style-appropriate front basket for an old 60s-70s Schwinn Breeze 3-speed bicycle like the one below?

Fairly straight-forward poll I like the nostalgia of my bike, but I am not sure which basket to equip it with as the bike is older than me.

Since you have a Hipster bike, complete the look with a milk crate crudely strapped on the back.

One of these, except for the crate.

Wicker baskets are for girls. If you actually want to carry shopping bags or library books, you need a wire basket.

Well, that may be fine for little boys, but I, being a Manly Man, made mine out of barb wire to carry all my weights and tools and guy junk on my girly bike.

I am going to go out on a limb and assert that anyone who uses the screen name "PrincessT" would be a solid match for a wicker bike basket, regardless of actual gender.

Re: Poll: Nostalgic chick bike basket

I vote wire basket, although any handlebar mounted type was traditionally for women/girls.
Guys went for the rear bike rack with a spring clamp.

Wicker all the way, PrincessT.

It's a hot look, IMO.

Woven on the front, and a trad. metal rack on the back.

And I loathe my screen name. Loathe it. It makes me sound fussy and girly and ewwww spoiled. I had been watching Star Wars and was thinking of Princess Leia at the time of DVDTalk signup. This is the only place where I don't use my normal, well established username.

Hmm if I can't get a wicker one to hold a bunch of books, that would make my trips to the library suck pretty bad.

And it's not a hipster bike. It's a holy crap I want a well made tank for a bike without spending a ton. Lemmy's bike is nice!

The chick with the bike is hot--I used to follow her blog. She is from Chicago too. She co-blogs with a cycling chick from Nashville.

I like it that you have a feminine username. It sounds cute. Most of the women around here have neuter names like Gobutton.

Re: Poll: Nostalgic chick bike basket

In addition to the basket, you need a good bell for the bike. When I think of older bicycles, I almost imagine the sound of someone riding it first.

Yes! It needs a basket, a bell that rings, and things to make it look good.

yeah and it even has a convenient carrying space for passed out offspring/date/drinking buddy!

Love the bell idea. That just made my must-have list. Along with a tin of oil to lube the hand brake. One of them froze up.

Re: Poll: Nostalgic chick bike basket

The "ching-ching-ching" bells are authentic though! Anything short of that will be like when Vegas replaced the cash payouts with tickets on the slot machines. Sure the sound is similar, but it is far from the same.
