Us versus "Them" (not the %$#@! ants, either)
I'm getting fed up with all these Purell/handi-wipe pu**ies in our midsts! At my job, people have to have a paper towel in their hand in order to use the door handle to get out of the men's room! People have lost their friggin' minds!
When did Germs become such a scary thing? Don't people understand that we need to be EXPOSED to germs in order for our anti-bodies to become strong enough to "combat the germs?" If you Purell yourself every second of the day, and use paper towels to protect you from door handles and other things that other people touch - you're allowing your immune system to become weak!
Frankly, I'm sick of seeing this. I'm sick of seeing people shrink away from shaking hands at church. WHAT ARE YOU ALL AFRAID OF???

I totally agree with you and am grateful for my mother allowing me to eat dirt and be a kid when I was a kid.
It seems that helped build a solid immune system as I have only been really sick twice in the last 10 plus years. The folks at my work who are the germaphobes are the ones out sick all the time.

You know I didn't start doing the paper towel to leave the men's room until I saw several people routinely walk out of a stall and straight out the door. Surprisingly I'm not big on having fecal matter on my hands.
But I agree we have an immune system for a reason. I've never been afraid to shake hands (unless it's with someone I know does something vile). I think all the bird/swine/misc. flu stuff in recent years and dramatically increased people's sensitivity to touching things that may have germs.

I do shudder when I'm in the restroom at work and I hear a toilet or urinal flush and the person exits without washing their hands first...
Seriously, wash your %$#@! hands!

I use paper towels on the men's room door handle because i have seen people use their post poo, bare ass to open the door.

I never really cared. Now that I have a 2 year old, I REALLY don't care. There are no precautions you can take to protect you from the germ dump that is a toddler. There fingers go right from their asses to their mouths to their food to their toys. I try to clean her with wet wips when I can, but it's really futile. Last weekend we went to the pumpkin patch...30 seconds after peting the goats she's eating popcorn with her hands. It's hopeless.
I just hope all the germ-phobes get to have the same experience I did of having your daughter vomit breast milk into your face and right into your mouth. That will cure your phobia pretty fast.

I don't care if I get sick, since I am miserable most of the time anyway. So, I take no precautions. I hardly ever get sick, though.

Same here. I'm not a germaphobe; I'll shake your hand, whatever. But I'll never stop using a paper towel when leaving a public restroom. If that makes me "them" (whoever "them" are) so be it.

Or how about riding the subway? When you're forced to stand and use the "strap-hangers" to hold on to - I don't travel the subways anymore, so I don't know, but I would imagine the germophobes using gloves when traveling the subway. By no means to I think they're "clean," and they're probably crawling with the most vile germs known to man...but I'd not protect myself while holding on to the strap-hanger. I'd deal with it, and then wash my hands at my first earliest convenience.
People need to stop being "them," and just be normal people, like it used to be.

After seeing some of the "human beings" that inhabit my building I would rather not touch anything they touch, ever.
What am I afraid of? I do not know the answer to that question but I do know that since I do not touch common items I have not had a cold in over three years.
Good enough for me!

But what has changed in the past 10 or 15 years? I mean, human beings have always been nasty and disgusting, but nobody back in the day resorted to using paper towels to exit a men's room? I mean, what happened between then and now? All of a sudden we became conscious of our surroundings?!

I pulled the short straw during last year's flu season and had to give the safety topic briefing to my co-workers on the dangers of swine flu. I made it light-hearted, but I learned a lot about disease transmission. It makes me feel sick when I see my co-workers use the urinal and not stop at the sink on their way out of the men's room, and I can't help but comment when someone comes out of a toilet stall and does the same thing. Since the doors are all "pull" from the inside, I have to put my hands on the same handle where "that" dude's urine-splattered (or worse) hands just were.
So, yes, I am a paper-towel-to-exit person. And I have a bottle of Purell at my desk. Mostly because I work around a few people with really poor personal hygiene habits. And I don't care if people think I'm a pissant... I am healthy and do not believe that having others' urine or feces mixed in with my food, or on my keyboard or telephone, can do anything to help me remain healthy.

Working in a scummy family-oriented retail store, I've discovered just how disgusting people are. I have to handle a lot of items that have been coughed on, sneezed on, or drooled on by babies (seriously, a parent handed me a DVD that was wet from their kid sucking on it!). I've seen people pick their noses and then pick up an item that I then have to handle. And I know those people that don't wash after taking a dump head right to my department. I don't use Purell, but I do wash my hands every chance I get.

The one that annoys me is this a-hole that wipes down an elliptical machine every morning at the gym with a strong-smelling wipe. I really don't want to breath in the cleanser smell when I am working out. Germaphobe pussy.
