Lincoln photo from 1865

This pic is beautiful, the last quality one of him and he looks like he's been working his butt off.

The first picture is more interesting. He's clearly worn out. The second one is a studio portrait by a good photographer who's working hard to reduce Lincoln's natural ugliness.

not really

Lincoln appears much older than his fifty-five years, and Gardner did nothing to flatter the president’s haggard, careworn features. The photographer may even have exaggerated them, for the turn of Lincoln’s head leaves one side of his face slightly in shadow, making his right eye and cheek appear hollow and cadaverous.

He looks like he could be an extra in The Walking Dead in that second pic.

Huh? He looks much older and uglier in the second picture.

I'd say he almost looks like a young man in the first picture. Just look at his hair. In fact, the first picture doesn't even seem real.

Abraham Lincoln would never make it in politics today with that face.

And fuck you, Lincoln! "Change"? Forcing Americans to free slaves in like socialism. Big Government shouldn't be able to tell me for what reason I use black folks! Lincoln can keep the change! Put black people back in shackles, I say!

I think the Gardner portrait looks noble. I must not be the only one, because it looks a lot like the Lincoln Memorial.

Which reminds me of a joke:

"What did Lincoln say after the 5-day drunk?"

"I freed the what???!!!"

Wow, he does look pretty haggard in that photo. That guy needs to relax a little. Maybe spend the evening at a play?

Re: Lincoln photo from 1865

I've always been rather attracted to Abraham Lincoln. I'm not sure why. If my husband were a little taller, he would be subject to some pretty weird role playing games.

I'm not sure you'll find many pictures from that time period where people didn't look haggard or hung over.

Re: Lincoln photo from 1865

I know that pic strangely doesn't look like a photo but in the enlarged version on there it clearly looks more like it. Btw have you noticed in each century there is a definitive president, 1700s Washington, 1800s Lincoln, 1900s.. ???
