Question about heat / light bulbs / and physics!

I have a bearded dragon in a 55 gallon tank at school. I need to upgrade the heating/lighting.

I'll have JUST enough room on top of the tank for two 8.5" clamp lamp like this:

They also sell the same clamp lamp in 5.5" models.

Now my question. Assumung I use the same bulb wattage, will a 8.5" lamp give offmore heat/light than a 5.5" lamp? Or will it all be the same?

Beardie!

Needs UV, needs heat...

Try one of these:

in one of those 8.5" domes.

Some of the newer/better bulbs have both types of light the Beardie needs. I use one of those for the day and keep a small heating pad under his cave at on during the day and night. But I'm in CA so it being too cold is never much of an issue.

Re: Question about heat / light bulbs / and physics!

Gotcha. I'd just get both 8.5" domes then, and put a ceramic heat element in one and a pretty daylight bulb (cfl/led) in the other. Also put the heating pad under the tank on the same end as the heat element. Leave the heating pad on 24/7 (low, or whatever setting gives nominal nighttime warmth for your environment), and have everything else on the timer for daytime. The beardie can then self regulate by moving from one end of the tank to the other as it desires.

I would say both will give off the same heat/light with the same bulb.

I believe the difference would be the 5.5" would be a more focused "beam" then the 8.5"

I've never seen a UVB and heat bulb in one
