Nine or ten days to spend in Japan; where to go, what to see?

I might be hitting up Japan as a last minute vacation at the start of October (Sept 30 to Oct 10 ish), and would normally have carefully planned out a trip, but since this is last minute... Where to go, what to see to make the best use of the time there?

That seems like a colossal waste of money, considering the Yen to Dollar exchange rate right now.

A month isn't long enough to plan? Last minute vacation to me is like Labor Day weekend.

Just saying.

Tokyo Disneyland & Sea. They're both pretty awesome.

I am spending a week there in September.

One guy from our group wants to hike Mt. Fuji. I was thinking more along the lines of taking a day to do to Osaka.

My trip is a conference, so my 8-5 days are pretty full. Maybe hop on the TX to visit Tokyo once or twice.

Yeah way too cold.

Defiantly visit the Nara deer park.

And have some beef sashimi.

Try to find Waldo.

You can drive up to what is known as the "fifth station" of Fuji by car. From there on up it's all on foot. After about the 8th station onwards it's almost vertical. Not exactly a casual hike. Kuroiinu is right about it being late in the season, it is certainly will be a hell of a lot cooler than climbing it in season (July-August). Be certain to watch the weather is the main thing.

I went to both parks this past Christmas and was totally blown away with Disneyland. It's every Disney park done right. DisneySea is gorgeous but the attractions are a bit dull. I wouldn't hesitate to visit Tokyo Disneyland again if the chance happens.

The Jungle Cruise in Hong Kong Disneyland is split into three lines - English, Mandarin and Cantonese. I went this past June and for a kick, my friends and I rode the Cantonese lines. Yes. Same patter of jokes. We could have provided translation if needed.

Re: Nine or ten days to spend in Japan; where to go, what to see?

What type of person are you?! Are you wanting to visit cities, do shopping for expensive stuff, clothes, etc. or do you want to see some of what we expats in Japan might consider woods or mountains?!
Definitely too late in the season for a Fuji climb - good way to die by getting caught in a freak storm - not unheard of in October - just four years ago 9 people were killed in Japan's Central Alps on the weekend of Oct. 7 - 9 due to a freak storm - Fuji is quite a bit higher!

I've been here for 9.5 years and several other people on this board live in Japan, so if you tell us what type of person you are we can probably make some suggestions as to what to look for/at.

You also don't tell us where you'll be based out of?! I assume that you're flying into somewhere and will travel FROM there? No?

I've not been yet so I cannot offer any applicable advice, but you might be able to settle an argument for me while you're there.

There are many women there, and many Italian restaurants. Can you confirm that you never see fish heads drinking cappucino in Italian restaurants with oriental women?

Thanks!

I love both beef and eggs but that looks absolutely disgusting.
