Help me plan a vacation route

Other than when I was 5, I've never been farther south from where I live (Muncie, IN) than northern Tennessee. My wife and I are going to Hilton Head Island, SC, next fall for a 4 day stay. We're going to drive down, because I love to drive and for the scenery.

If you go to maps.google.com, and map from Muncie to HHI, there's three routes that are suggested, each with their own neat stops, that are no more than an hour apart. If I'm not factoring time into the trip, which do you think I should take? (Please feel free to map the locations, in case they go through somewhere I don't spotlight) Primarily looking for a route with the most scenery, interesting places, and notable eating establishments.

A.) Route A takes me from southeast Indiana to Lexington, KY; from there to Knoxville, TN; through the Appalachian Mountains to Asheville, NC; and from there through Spartanburg, SC, and down to Hilton Head Island.

B.) Route B takes me east through Dayton, OH; southeast from there to Charleston, WV; from there, it's south through the Appalachians; continuing south to Charlotte, NC; then to Charleston, SC, and down to Hilton Head Island.

C.) Route C takes me south much like Route A up until Knoxville, swings around the Appalachians and from there, heads south into Georgia. It passes through Atlanta & Macon, and swings north into South Carolina right before reaching Savannah - from there, it's east into Hilton Head Island.

Thoughts?

Re: Help me plan a vacation route

I would do A.

You may not have an idea of what driving through Atlanta can be like at certain times of the day. As well as 75 from Knoxville down to Atlanta isn't as nice a visual drive as the A route through the mountains and the Carolinas.

I'd also go with A. I like Atlanta but if you're not hanging out it seems pointless to drive through it. Asheville's more enjoyable than Charlotte (which, frankly, is a really bland city), so yeah, A is my choice.

Re: Help me plan a vacation route

I live in Louisville and we took our vacation this summer in Hilton Head when BP ruined our Destin plans. We went with route A (or one similar) and it was gorgeous.

Do you have kids? Regardless, go see Greg Russell under the Oak Tree in the Harbor. He's hilarious and fun for the whole family.

I definitely recommend A just because you can detour at Pigeon Forge through the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. I've been there, and it's great!

I also recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway.
