Does anyone here teach AP Spanish Language?

This will be my first year teaching this course and I'm trying to decide on the books that I will use. I'm really considering the Abriendo Paso: Gramatica and Lectura books but I'm wondering if we could do with some older editions. With the budget crunch I'm trying to see how I can get needed materials at a cheaper cost so that I can get some other necessary resources. Last year I taught AP Spanish Literature and those books were decently priced compared to the new versions of these language books. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Fuck if this thread isn't derailed in the second post. Any help from someone that actually knows and teaches Spanish?

I took AP Spanish Language. Can't believe that was over six years ago.

Is this for HS?

If it is, isn't there usually a list of certain criteria? ie- a list of books chosen by the school or something?

if it's not, then i would just go for conversational spanish and wing it.

Yes, there are certain books suggested and I wanted to know from someone that teaches this subject if I could use older editions. I would really like to know the differences between the newest editions of the Abriendo Paso books compared to the previous edition. Working with a budget really puts a cramp on what I need and what I can get. Pretty soon schools will be asking us to teach with next to nothing.

I do not teach AP Spanish Language, though I suggest taking the kids to Tulsa Zoo on a field trip. It's a cool place.

Most of the people on this forum are AP Spanish teachers, though I am not. Fortunately, the DVD Talk servers are big enough to contain both the serious and unserious posts, so you should be in luck... soon.

You can't make light of a teacher entering another stressful school year.

Will you be sleeping with your students? I heard as long as you lure your students in Spanish it's totally legal since this government wouldn't have jurisdiction.

Re: Does anyone here teach AP Spanish Language?

I got an email response from the professor that taught my AP seminar this year and she recommended that I stick with the newer editions. The only concern I have is that since every year the test is different there can't be books that can specifically cater to the tests of that particular year.

Re: Does anyone here teach AP Spanish Language?

If the list of books are anywhere similar towards collegiate type books, use the older/cheaper edition. Spanish literature won't have any "new" information or extreme changes... manzana will always be manzana.

I strongly have an opinion about your professor's email response. They don't make a dime if their books aren't being used, so, of course they will push for newer editions.

As a professor, with little to no concern for my intro (your AP students), use the newest books. It will get you the best kick backs from the publishers (ie free tickets to baseball games, free drinks, free dinners, etc.)

Anyone here have an AP Language syllabus (approved) that you would be willing to allow me to use? I have an approved AP Literature syllabus that I put together last year that I would be willing to share.

Is there no other Spanish AP teacher in your district? I mean really, the odds that someone on this site teaches Spanish AP is approaching 0 while the odds of another teacher in your district teaching it approaches 100.

Advanced Placement. In the US, an AP course is generally taught in high school, but at a college level, and college credit can be received for it by successfully passing AP exam. (Some colleges insist on their own exam rather than the AP exam.)
