Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

"Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum."

Did I Google the right Group B? Was not sure what it was...

Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

i assume you mean strep b, right? it's no big deal. if she's giving birth naturally, they just have to give her antibiotics for a while when she's going into labor. if she's having a C-section, they don't have to do anything. the risk of complications to the baby is nearly zero with the antibiotics.

Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

yes. again, read what i posted and stop worrying about it. the complications are next to nothing as long as they get the antibiotics in her in the right time frame.

You should come back in a few months after your wife has successfully delivered a healthy baby and then you'll be in the right frame of mind to have a good chuckle about that dude banging your wife...

From what I've read you're looking at less than a 1% chance of the baby becoming infected and in the rare chance that that happens ...a 10% mortality rate if the baby does become infected. It's hard to be comforted by those numbers because your first instinct is to think "What if we're in the 10% of that less than 1%". But you should really take heart in those encouraging odds and think positive thoughts.

I won't tell you to relax, because your days of being "relaxed" ended the day you knocked her up. This is merely the first in a long, long procession of things you will be worrying about as a father. You'll just have to get used to that.

Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

Wouldn't this be something to discuss with, oh I don't know, your obstetrician? I imagine they may have a few more facts than the general public. Also, they are slightly less likely to make jokes about banging your wife.

Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

1: When my wife was pregnant, we asked all of our pregnancy-related questions here first. Then, if the OBGYN told us something different than the otter community, we could say "Well, doctor, we have read plenty of research that contradicts your view". And we would make the "air quotes" gesture when we said "doctor".
2: If your obstetrician isn't making jokes about banging your wife, you're going to the wrong obstetrician.

Don't worry, it will be funny when your kid falls down a flight of stairs and rolls over a few times on the way down

Sucks that there isn't some kind of device you could use to speak with the OB without having to drive all the way down there! Damn you, lack of technology!

Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

I tested positive and had 2 bags of anitboitic IV during labor. I had forgotten about in until just now. Of the many things associated with pregnancy, child birth and the recovery, this was very low on my list.

Please. Try and find me an obstetrician who A) knows his stuff and B) doesn't make cracks about banging my wife*. They just don't exist.

*If you could find one who also won't actually bang my wife, that would also be appreciated.

Re: GROUP B Pregnancy

At first I thought this was a thread about some sort of placebo effect, like group a chicks got pregnant 75% of the time while on a strict diet of Cheeseburger Dorritos.
