My bedroom is incredibly hot!

Okay, this has been going on for a long time and driving me nuts. My bedroom gets incredibly warm in the summer regardless of the air conditioning or not. Cold air is coming out of the vent and the cold air return has been cleaned out of any dust or animal hair (from the dog) and isn't clogged or anything weird. It's fine if the door is left open but if the door is closed for a few hours then it gets really warm. I close my door when I'm not home so the dog doesn't get in there and I close it at night while I'm sleeping. I have a fan but that just circulates the warm air.

My question is, is there something I can do besides leaving the door open to cool the room off? I don't want to get an independent air conditioner or anything like that. I don't know what to do but it's driving me CRAZY!!!

Your best bet is to just leave the door open whenever you can. Get a gate to block the door while you're out so the dog doesn't get in there. Don't know what else to try.

Try to masturbate once a day rather than every hour.

Get a fan, put a giant block of ice in front of it and make sure the fan is pointed at you.

Get a Heater, closed the door and window, then wear heavy pajamas.

Re: My bedroom is incredibly hot!

The thermostat control for your A/C should have a mode that runs the fan continuously. In that mode, the air in your house is continuously circulated - if you have an air return in your bedroom, it might help keep the temperature in your house more balanced.

Re: My bedroom is incredibly hot!

For whatever reason, there is resistance to air flow to your bedroom. Since it works fine when the door is open, my guess is that the return duct isn't flowing like it should. But you can tune your air flow. Partly close the dampers of the supply vents in the other rooms. That will create greater resistance to flow in the other rooms, which increases the pressure to the bedroom. Or you can restrict the flow of the returns in the other rooms, which will increase the vacuum pulling air out of the bedroom. When you get it right, the cold air will flow through all rooms equally.

If one room is particularly cool, I would start there.

Close vents in other portions of the house so that more air gets pushed to the bedroom.

Re: My bedroom is incredibly hot!

Try putting some sort of shade over your bedroom, so the sun doesn't shine on it and heat it up.

I think Nick is on the right track here. For some reason, your cold air return is not working, and air only flows out vent when the door is open (it has nowhere to go when the door isclosed).

Use a piece of paper held at the top as a test probe. Dangle in front of vent and cold air return with door open and closed. You can estimate air flow by how much the paper deflects.

I think you'll find the return doesn't return much, and flow from the vent drops with the door shut. If that is so, you will have to investigate further down the return duct until you find the problem.

Note: Is the area of the return at least as big as the vent? If not, that could be the problem too.

Pic of the bottom of the closed door, please.

I'm betting that the door has no space underneath to allow air to flow into the room, which in return will allow the cold air return to function properly. I've seen this happen when people switch from hardwood floors to carpet and from carpet to thicker carpet.

Doors need 1/2 inch of space underneath them.

If your bedroom stays hot, you could convert it to a sauna.

Ditto.

Depending on the width of your door, here's a relatively inexpensive, sturdy, portable gate:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_os_product

$30 from Amazon. We have two in our house to help keep our puppy limited to the living/dining rooms and kitchen while he's being housetrained. It's low enough for an adult to step over (27"), and has a mesh barrier to let air through. It is expandable from a minimum of 38" to a maximum of 60" in width.

Re: My bedroom is incredibly hot!

Sounds similar to a situation I had. I bought one of these and it seems to help.
