My first trip by way of the sky.

So, I'm taking my first ever ride in the big silver bird in the sky in about 10 hours.

My flight leaves at 6am and we (my uncle and I) land in Dallas 1 hour later. There is a 2 hour layover in Dallas and then we take a 3 hour flight straight through to Philadelphia. We should be getting there about 1pm.

I'm kind of excited but a little nervous. I'm always afraid of doing new things because I always feel like someone's going to yell at me because I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Also there's the whole dying thing but I'm not too worried about that.

Sorry this is not a very exciting thread. I haven't recently had a sex-change and I have no soccer betting advice to dispense. Nor have I had any liquids refreshingly spewed into my mouth from another individual. Oh, and VMS Alarms.

Don't press the ATR button in the restroom. It stands for Automatic Tampon Remover and has bad results on men.

While you're talking to the flight crew, be sure to tell them that you think they're the bomb!

I don't think they call them that anymore.

Don't forget the "cucumber wrapped in foil stuck down your pants" joke. TSA agents always appreciate a good laugh to break up the monotony.

Dallas Fort Worth is a big airport and has 5 terminals A-E. When you get there, check where you need to catch the plane to Philly. If you need to switch terminals, take the Skylink to get there. Don't go outside and have to go through security again.

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

I have this habit of laughing when I'm nervous. Every time we'd hit turbulence I'd start giggling and everyone else on the plane looked at me like I was nuts (which I am, but that's beside the point).

After the seatbealt light has been turned off, dancing in the aisles is not only accepted, but encouraged.

See how many times you can use the word cockpit.

Surprisingly, this never even popped into my head.

I'm the same way except that I weep uncontrollably.

And check.

And is it bad that I just popped in Air Force One?

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

Be prepared if the flight has delays for whatever reason (it shouldn't since you're leaving so early) but you could end up missing your connecting flight, which sucks, and you have to wait more and hope you can make it on.

Also, sometimes airliners cut it closer than they should. I have had to literally RUN probably half a mile if not more just to make my flight on time. Pray you don't have to experience that.

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
'Well isn't this nice...'
And isn't it ironic ... don't you think

If you are near the door and someone passes to leave, be sure to snarl "Get off my plane!!" at them.

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

Bring bottled water and a few books (in case one sucks)...a snack would be a good idea, airport and airliner food is horribly overpriced crap. From my experience, if you have a bad back and are flying coach a small pillow would be a good idea. The ones they provide are a joke. And get lots of alcoholic beverages while you can.
Have a fun flight!

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

Thanks for the kind words and advice. I'll be in the air in about 4 1/2 hours so I better get some sleep.

If I haven't updated this thread by Monday night, I'm dead.

You can't bring water through security. You can bring an empty bottle to fill once you're past security, though.

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

Yeah, what Steve said. Nothing over 3oz. I even had a friend that had a 6oz bottle but it was half full...didn't fly with TSA. The container has to be 3oz or less.

Anyway, hope you have a fun flight and don't come back dead.

Don't forget to ask the pilots if they recommend any good adult beverages.... and if they have any in the cockpit.

Re: My first trip by way of the sky.

I'll be landing in Dallas in about 2 1/2 hours after a 30 min layover in Phoenix.

Hopefully I don't get stuck next to a fatty.

I usually watch Fearless. True story. I have a fear of flying and this movie strangely makes me feel safer.
