After watching him "dance," I have no doubt he has suffered brain damage!

What an ass! There are plenty of legitimate cases out there, and people like him cast a shadow over everyone else.

Re: Video casts doubts on former firefighter's disability award

isn't the first time, certainly won't be the last. some people try to see what they can get. of course, this guy was stupid enough to be dancing and other stuff...

btw, what is it with firefighters getting large payouts lately? there was the one who ate dog food and originally got 2.7 mil or something like that, though i think it was reduced to like 1 or 1.5.

Where is this money coming from to award these firefighters? I am actually curious...is it tax payer money?

Re: Video casts doubts on former firefighter's disability award

It is amazing to me that a fireman falling down the hole would get any money at all. It is not like he was not aware the pole was there. Then I read on wiki this.

The National Fire Protection Association has called for the removal of all poles from fire stations, due to hazards, and in many cases fire stations now have only one floor, so no pole is even needed. Poles are now relatively scarce in the United States

Re: Video casts doubts on former firefighter's disability award

It's possible to be able to do the things in the video, but still be unfit for some kinds of work. We don't see any sustained exertion in this. For all we know, right after each segment, he had to sit down and gasp for breath for fifteen minutes.

i'm sure he'd try to use that arguement, but they probably had video tape of him right after each segment too.

I'm just tired of how ready everyone is to jump in with righteous indignation without knowing the full story on things.

He's probably a stinking cheater, but I'm not ready to burn him at the stake just yet.

Re: Video casts doubts on former firefighter's disability award

I didn't even know you could win an "awarded" in a disability claim. Why would you be able to do that? I would think any amount from a work related injury would be to continue to pay you what you were paid + actual medical bills.

I'm "guess" the rest is for pain and suffering???

Not sure what this has to do with the thread. Tho I do find it interesting you didn't actually post anything with profits. But thanks to the new health care regulations, I'm sure rates will go up so they can make those profits they are "legally entitled too".

I'm seconding this. "Not ready to burn him at the stake just yet"? I don't come into these threads looking for logic and reason.

Now, I say we burn him. Preferrably on a stake.

Re: Video casts doubts on former firefighter's disability award

Gees a Firefighter or Policeman filing a false claim of disability, isnít that a dog bites man story?

My neighbor has been on permanent disability from a police department since his late 20s. He claimed the utility belt screwed up his back so he couldnít work anymore. Strange his back seemed just fine last year when he completed a triathlon. I will give him credit, he at least had the commonsense to move a hundred miles away from the department he is defrauding.

He said he couldn't use his right arm. He's, at the very least, lying about that part.

Put on the batbelt that my department wears and see what happens when you sit down wrong, fall down, physical use of force, etc. I had severe lower back pain for a few days after I apparently wore it too tight one day to work. Of course, it was all over with after a few days, and I rearranged all the gear to prevent that from happening again.
It's the same thing that can happen from wearing a bulky wallet. I had intense pain shooting through the back of my left leg about 8 months ago, right from the point of wallet contact(where I've always worn my wallet). Changed pockets, and about a week later the pain was gone.
However, I'm skeptical, so your neighbor is probably full of crap.

I'd burn him--or set him on fire--just to see if he could put himself out.
